Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Infrastructure and Deployment Team (SST). This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will serve as a design engineer for components on Infrastructure & Deployment Team (IDT).  The scope spans requirements, design, development, analysis, verification, and production of hardware and support equipment.  Responsibilities include mechanical design and analysis using computer-aided design (CAD), conducting packaging trades, generating drawing packages, and associated electronic data, and supporting the fabrication, assembly, and test of the hardware.  This is for a position designing equipment removal and installation solutions for the Deactivation, Demilitarization, and Disposal of the Minuteman III Weapon System. Specific Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating mechanical systems design in dynamic environment

  • Responsible for evaluating mechanical systems, products, components, and applications by reviewing designs.

  • Ensures product quality by reviewing mechanical designs and validating that current standards are applied.

  • Supports the delivery of Mechanical Systems design Technical Data Packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts

  • Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues

  • Perform static and dynamic structure analysis (including loads evaluation and static/dynamic conditions, stress, stability, fatigue and thermal loading)

  • Perform heating and cooling calculations to size HVAC equipment

  • Select appropriate HVAC equipment to meet size and system requirements

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Master’s Degree; 0 years with PhD

  • Experience with 3D mechanical design using CAD tools (i.e. NX, CATIA, or similar)

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams

  • Experience briefing technical materials in reviews or technical interchange meetings

  • Must have US Citizenship with an Active DoD Secret clearance updated/reinvestigated within last 6 years

  • Must have the ability to obtain, and maintain access to Special Access Programs (SAP)  as a condition of continued employment.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Experience developing testing criteria to satisfy requirements

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming), Scaled Agile Framework – SAFe for Lean Enterprises

  • Working knowledge of system testing and integration

  • Experience leading Mechanical design efforts on MILCON, major infrastructure/building projects, or Aerospace and Defense programs.

Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
