Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal / Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Global Supply Chain Engineering Team. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. Final grade level offered will be based on candidate level of experience.

The Global Supply Chain (GSC) Engineering Team is responsible for supply base technical management related to the acquisition of Space mission electronic and mechanical hardware. The GSC Engineering Team is the technical liaison between Programs, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality and Suppliers. The Team manages the technical translation and implementation of engineering requirements between Northrop Grumman and its suppliers into cost effective and quality supplier products. The Team is also responsible for proactively resolving producibility or technical acquisition issues. The selected candidate will apply engineering fundamentals to creatively solve problems while managing their projects independently. The candidate will work closely with other departments and suppliers to drive technical solutions for supplier and manufacturer activities in support of Global Supply Chain efforts and Space related missions.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will become part of the Global Supply Engineering team and responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the technical liaison between Programs, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality and Suppliers.

  • Apply the principles of engineering to resolve technical issues and provide technical support for mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic devices and highly engineered, complex systems.

  • Support non-conformance investigations, identification of root causes and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Perform technical evaluations of supplier quotes.

  • Perform supplier product capability and producibility reviews.

  • Conduct industry and supplier market research of technical capabilities and cost benchmarking in support of sourcing strategy and execution.

  • Support supplier selection, qualification and technical reviews.

  • Work both independently and as a team player while managing multiple tasks and projects.

  • Some travel to supplier facilities and other Northrop Grumman facilities may be required.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Relocation assistance may be available.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Masters degree; 0 years with PhD

Sr. Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 9 years of experience; 7 years with Masters degree; 4 years with PhD

  • Experience reviewing engineering specifications, schematics and drawings with the ability to translate customer driven requirements into specifications.

  • Experience resolving issues and providing technical support during the design, development and production phases.

  • Familiarity with engineered commodity items including mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic devices.

  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles

  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance

These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have:
  • An Engineering or Engineering Technology Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

  • Current DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, production and technical support of engineered commodity items including mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic devices.

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, production and technical support of complex, highly engineered parts and systems.

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams including Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Suppliers to resolve technical issues.

  • Experience with non-conformance investigations, root cause identification and corrective action implementation.

  • Experience working directly with suppliers for technical qualification, capability and capacity assessment, production issues, part qualification and non-conformance resolution.

  • Project Management experience with proven success managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

  • 2D/3D CAD experience and working knowledge of PLM systems.

  • Material Resource Planning/Enterprise Resource Planning system experience.

  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership, and problem solving abilities.

Salary Range: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,600 USD - $152,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
