The Tactical Space Systems Group is seeking an entry to mid-level Mechanical Designer to perform mechanical design tasks on one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems. The Mechanical Designer will work with other designers and engineers on Space craft Structures, Subsystems, Mechanisms, MGSE, or Proposals across the three business areas to develop and enhance critical technical capabilities that drive our businesses. Skills include, but not limited to, Computer Aided Design (CAD), knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T), Engineering Drawings, and Design for Manufacturing.

Essential Functions:

  • Work on all Space craft Structures, Payload, and Antenna mechanical hardware from requirements all the way through integration and test.
  • Perform detailed design tasks using CreoParametric Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other software tools to develop and document designs for manufacturing and ultimately assembly into spacecraft.
  • Produce Mechanical drawings using industry standard GD&T processes.
  • Interface with Mechanical design and engineering team to produce efficient and manufacturable spacecraft parts and assemblies.
  • Develop Space craft component, propulsion, and coax/waveguide layout using CreoParametric Computer Aided Design (CAD).

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Mechanical Designer 2 level or a Principal Mechanical Designer 3 level.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Designer 3:

  • 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.
  • Experience with performing mechanical tasks associated with design and manufacturing of structures.
  • Experience with CreoParametric Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Preferred Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Designer 3:

  • Experience with the fundamentals of spacecraft layout and design.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards and prepa ration of manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience with 3D Printing, Design for Manufacturing, and hands-on hardware fabrication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
  • Experience with CreoParametric Piping and Cabling extensions.

Basic Qualifications for Mechanical Designer 2:

  • 2 Years with Bachelors in Science OR a Masters Degree.
  • Experience with performing mechanical tasks associated with design and manufacturing of structures.
  • Experience with CreoParametric Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Preferred Qualifications for Mechanical Designer 2:

  • Experience with the fundamentals of spacecraft layout and design.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards and prepa ration of manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience with 3D Printing, Design for Manufacturing, and hands-on hardware fabrication.

Salary Range: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
