Northrop Grumman's Corporate Sustainability organization is seeking an Environmental Engineer; this position reports to the Manager, Corporate Environmental Remediation (CER) Organization, and will require the selected candidate to work at a Northrop Grumman facility (a partial remote work schedule may be considered), and job location is not limited to California.  The incumbent will serve as a member of the CER Team with direct responsibility for the overall project management and success of their assigned projects.

The CER Team oversees the remediation process for a portfolio of sites representing corporate environmental liabilities. The remediation program is supported by an internal organization and supplemented by carefully vetted external resources, with the goal to meet the company’s regulatory and legal obligations by delivering projects reliably and safely, on time, within scope, and at planned costs in a fashion consistent with NG Values. The CER Team strives to make sound business decisions, meet regulatory obligations, and provide enterprise remediation leadership, and commits to working with integrity to ensure quality, drive performance, and incorporate safe work practices for ourselves and the teams we lead.
 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and oversee overall strategy for assigned remediation sites.

  • Deliver presentations and communicate effectively to NG management on status, strategies, costs, progress and performance, and emerging issues on assigned site remediation projects.

  • Act as project team leader and provide management/direction to external resources.

  • Charter, direct, coach, monitor, and assess consultant and contractor work.

  • Execute projects in alignment with NG project management systems.

  • Manage, mobilize, and consult with multi-disciplinary teams, including but not limited to attorneys, government representatives, engineers, scientists, accountants, outreach specialists, and consultants/contractors.

  • Be a key CER Team contributor with effective collaboration with peer project managers.

  • Manage projects in accordance with NG’s environmental, health & safety (EHS) program and assure safe work practices are implemented on site remediation sites.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules (i.e., Microsoft Project), implement change management, and drive remediation progress.

  • Develop cost forecasts, manage budgets, approve spending, and certify costs in coordination with NG business management procedures.

  • Implement project controls (i.e., earned value) to ensure cost tracking, reasonableness, and efficiency.

  • Interface and negotiate with regulatory agencies on site strategies and advocate for NG’s best interests.

  • Plan and prepare scopes of work (SOWs), request for proposals (RFPs), purchase orders and change orders, and coordinate with procurement organization to execute contracts with consultants/contractors.

  • Critically review consultant technical deliverables and ensure quality/schedule adherence.

  • Estimate project life-cycle cost, maintain financial forecasts, and update project environmental reserves.

  • Develop site closure/exit strategy and maintain site closure path diagrams.

  • Conduct site management strategy and remedy selection events.

  • Maintain site remediation files in accordance with NG’s records management procedure.

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate a basic understanding of CERCLA and RCRA laws as well as regulations and environmental remediation site management.  An understanding of project management, financial/tracking, agency interface and project controls is preferred.

  • They must have the ability to drive change, lead cross-functional activities, and build relationships at all levels of the organization and with vendors and suppliers.

 Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Required experience includes a BS degree from an accredited institution with a focus in an engineering field (including environmental, chemical, civil, and mechanical) or a science field (geology and hydrogeology).

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of working experience in the field of environmental remediation OR Master's Degree and 0 years of experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage workload in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Is action-oriented, works effectively in times dealing with ambiguity, displays command skills, and has a drive for results.

  • Proven environmental remediation knowledge and problem solving experience.

  • Keen understanding of structural organization and focused on customer service delivery.

  • Experience in field operations, remedial construction, and environmental testing methodologies.

  • Ability to travel to various project locations across the United States.

 

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Required experience includes a BS degree from an accredited institution with a focus in an engineering field (including environmental, chemical, civil, and mechanical) or a science field (geology and hydrogeology).

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of working experience in the field of environmental remediation OR Master's Degree and 3 years of experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage workload in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Is action-oriented, works effectively in times dealing with ambiguity, displays command skills, and has a drive for results.

  • Proven environmental remediation knowledge and problem solving experience.

  • Keen understanding of structural organization and focused on customer service delivery.

  • Experience in field operations, remedial construction, and environmental testing methodologies.

  • Ability to travel to various project locations across the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT).

  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
  • Project Management training or certification(s).

  • Strong business/financial acumen and fundamental understanding of financial systems.


Salary Range: $77,100 USD - $115,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
