Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Range Safety Engineer. This position will be located at VSFB, CA and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What You’ll Get to Do: 

The candidate provides the knowledge and technical skills to support Sentinel’s Range Safety program in all aspects of ground and flight range safety analyses and data production. In addition, candidate is expected to develop range safety data products for use by national test ranges in their independent safety assessments of ground and flight tests. Furthermore, the candidate will be required to schedule, participate in, and present analysis at working group meetings, peer reviews and other technical meetings. The candidate should have strong oral and written communications skills and be comfortable communicating to the customer and senior management. Candidate should be self-motivated, with the ability to make proper, timely decisions and recommendations.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting and executing ground and flight operations at a major range and test facility base
  • Planning and executing integrated installation and test procedures for the transportation, installation, and testing of air vehicle
  • AFSPCMAN 91-710 Flight Certification (tailoring requirements, providing formal verification)
  • Conduct flight readiness review with external agencies such Space Launch Delta 30 (SLD30)
  • Missile integration and certification to obtain an Operational Approval Letter from Agencies such as FAA, Space Force / Air Force
  • Experience with generating data per MIL-STD-882E such as Hazard Analysis Reports

This position requires excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with senior management, peers, and employees.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Job Qualifications: 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in science / technology with 14+ years’ of Engineering / Range Safety / Systems Safety / experience; 12+ years’ of Engineering / Range Safety / Systems Safety experience with a Master’s; 9+ years’ of Engineering / Range Safety / Systems Safety experience with PHD
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance
  • DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date in the last 6 years
  • 3+ years of experience working with the Range Commander's Council standards related to flight and range safety
  • 5+ year with understanding OSHA Standards
  • 5+ years of experience performing Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Test Hazard Analyses (THA), and support incorporating updates into the existing Hazard Tracking System (HTS) records and Safety Analysis Report (SAR)

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Weapon System Experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience)
  • System Engineering background with System Safety experience
  • Active Top Secret clearance with investigation in the last 6 years
  • Ability to apply extensive technical expertise in missile configuration and testing. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and clearly present technical approaches and findings
  • Ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Ability to work independently, without appreciable direction
  • Ability to guide the successful completion of major programs.

Salary Range: $146,000 USD - $219,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
