Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal System Safety Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

  • System Safety engineering and development of program safety plans to provide the engineering team with application of safety policies and guidance.
  • Individual will provide support to MDA and other program personnel as required as well as other system engineering tasks as required.
  • Successful candidate will interface with team members and National Team management to ensure high quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsibilities include integration of the product lines (BM, C2, Networks), generation of responsible sections of the capability specifications, training less experienced personnel in SE and Safety techniques, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working level counterparts on an as required basis.

Basic Qualifications:

  • An active Secret clearance is required.
  • 9 Years with Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 7 years’ experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Candidate should possess System Engineering background with specialization in System and Software Safety.
  • Candidate must have the ability to be part of an integrated team tasked with defining the physical, functional, and technical architecture necessary to describe the desired capabilities of an evolving BMDS Battle Management, Command & Control, and Communications effort.
  • Skills required include:
    • Identification and definition of desired capabilities
    • Modeling the interrelationships between internal and external components
    • Communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users; and generating system/element level functional, performance, and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities.
  • Successful candidate will possess in depth knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with specific roles in Battle Management and Command & Control systems with an understanding of DoD safety programs highly desired.

Salary Range: $103,900 USD - $155,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
