Principal/Sr. Principal Industrial Hygienist

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection (EHSFP) team of qualified, diverse individuals in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing and managing all industrial hygiene related programs and supporting safety and environmental programs.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

• Oversees, supports, and performs tasks for the following industrial hygiene programs: asphyxiant exposure analysis, indoor air quality, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazard communication, radioactive materials, asbestos/lead abatement, air monitoring, hearing conservation (noise survey and dosimetry), ventilation surveys, respiratory protection, field sampling, and incident investigations.
• Manages complex laser safety program.
• Conducts job hazard assessments and recommends appropriate hazard control approaches.
• Develops, implements, and maintains industrial hygiene programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
• Conducts internal compliance inspections to identify actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
• Partners with management to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.
• Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects. 
• Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, the site EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response, and Crisis Management teams.
• Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases and regulatory agencies.
• Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for site with a focus on industrial hygiene. 
• Reviews new construction and renovation plans for EHS aspects.
• Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures with focus of industrial hygiene.
• Performs in-person and develops online EHS training for employees and management focused on industrial hygiene programs.
• Supports the site’s environmental, safety, and fire protection programs.

The position can be filled at a Level 3 (Principal) or 4 (Sr. Principal), depending on experience.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of five (5)+ years of experience in industrial hygiene; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with three (3)+ years of experience.
• The candidate must be willing to achieve a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification within three years of accepting this position.
• Experience in conducting air monitoring, noise surveys and dosimetry, ventilation surveys, respiratory protection and fit testing, field sampling, cryogenics study, and incident investigations.  
• Experience in conducting personal protective equipment assessments, and job hazard analysis.
• Experience in conducting in-person training and developing online training for various industrial hygiene related topics involving various types of audiences.
• Experience with managing various industrial hygiene programs (with a specific emphasis on hearing conservation, ventilation, respiratory protection, chemical exposure monitoring) based on the review and interpretation of regulations and standards.
• Ability to perform job duties with general direction and supervision and to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound safety/industrial hygiene principles.   
• Excellent oral and written communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization are a must. 
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). 

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of nine (9)+ years of experience in industrial hygiene; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with seven (7)+ years of experience.
• The candidate must be a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). 
• Extensive experience in conducting air monitoring, noise surveys and dosimetry, ventilation surveys, respiratory protection and fit testing, field sampling, cryogenics study, and incident investigations.  
• Extensive experience in conducting personal protective equipment assessments, and job hazard analysis.
• Extensive experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various industrial hygiene related topics involving various types of audiences.
• Extensive experience with managing various industrial hygiene programs (with a specific emphasis on hearing conservation, ventilation, respiratory protection, chemical exposure monitoring) based on the review and interpretation of regulations and standards.
• Experience with managing/overseeing third party consultants/contractors.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and to develop innovative solutions based on sound scientific principles.   
• Ability to perform job duties without appreciable direction and supervision.  
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization are a must.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). 

Preferred Qualifications for Both Levels:

• Master of Science (MS) degree in industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or currently enrolled in an M.S. degree program.
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Laser Safety Officer (LSO)
• Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Experience with supporting EHS programs for manufacturing and construction operations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvements and to develop and implement more efficient and enhanced programs.
• Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
• Experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Tableau.
• Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.
• Experience with Cority IH Data Management System.

Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD

Salary Range 2: $102,200 USD - $153,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
