Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Aircraft Sheet Metal Technician 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Saint Augustine, Florida.

The selected candidate will require knowledge of Aircraft Structural fabrication, assembly and installations. Complete acquaintance with an understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and apply practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

Essential Functions:

  • Fabrication of parts, assemblies, installations and repair of production sheet metal products
  • Experienced and familiar with blueprints, drawings and specifications
  • Operate under restrictive policies regarding FOE (Foreign Object Debris), clean as you go, and housekeeping.
  • Adhere to Safety policies but not limited to safety glasses, proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). And hazardous waste requirements

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.

Position Summary:

  • Work in an aircraft hangar environment utilizing special skills such as but not limited to; close tolerance hole drilling, countersinking, fastener installation, shooting and or bucking rivets, trimming, use of micrometers, and calipers. 
  • Fabricate, assemble, and repair to production sheet metal products and equipment in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Makes sheet metal layouts; sets up and operates fabricating machinery; shapes metal using blocks or forms and inspects assemblies and installations for conformance to specifications. Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs both internal and external aircraft structures and surfaces for aircraft modification in accordance with technical manuals, engineering drawings, and FAA regulations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and a Minimum of 1 years of Aircraft structures/sheet metal experience
  • Ability to develop and build prototype detail parts and assemblies
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance along with Special Program Access in a reasonable amount of time as required by the business
  • Must be able to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working overhead
  • The ability to pass Special Medical/Respiratory Exam.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an Aviation Rapid Prototype and/or Experimental Fabrication Environment
  • Active Secret DoD Clearance with and investigation within the last 5 years
  • 5+ years’ experience with aircraft part fabrication and assembly
  • Expert knowledge of blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Basic knowledge using NX, CAD or similar modeling programs
  • A&P License

Salary Range: $34,500 USD - $57,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
