Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Test Pilot to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Evaluation organization. Roles available are on the following platforms: E2/G5/C130/KingAir/737. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, you will test aircraft to determine compliance with specification and operational suitability. You will also operate models of test aircraft during engineering flight tests, production acceptance, and flight test support through specifically prescribed tests and maneuvers. In addition, coordinate flight operations efforts, approve cockpit configuration, and may conduct demonstration flights with customers, government officials, or other personnel aboard to exhibit aircraft performance, flying qualities and system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the other Pilots, Test Conductors, and Flight Test Engineers to ensure sensor test objectives are met during test execution.
  • Work through technical, schedule, and cost constraints to drive safe, efficient, and effective testing
  • Earn and maintain type rating and currency for the specific system under test.
  • Support technical and safety planning, mission planning, test card reviews, test technique development, and test plan reviews
  • Contribute to defining operating limitations, “what-if” documents, test hazard analysis (THAs) and flight readiness reviews
  • Travel and test execution at customer sites and ranges
  • Create or modify operating procedural documentation to support improved flight operations.
  • Support Flight Test Community of Practice with mentorship and lessons learned
  • Promotes aviation safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in flight test operations
  • Overtime, odd shifts and weekend work will occasionally be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's of Science degree AND 14 years of related professional/military experience, OR a Master’s of Science degree AND 12 years of related professional/military experience, OR a Ph.D. AND 9 years of related professional/military experience
  • Must have at least 1,500 hours as Pilot in Command.
  • Must have commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine Land, and Instrument Flight rating
  • Must be able to pass FAA Class II physical in order to maintain employment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance prior to the commencement of employment
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operational flight experience in a military aircraft systems and large business-jet aircraft types
  • Current Special Program Access (PAR/SAP)
  • Military Test Pilot School Graduate
  • Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • Recent flight test experience in advanced military aircraft platform
  • In-depth understanding of airworthiness processes and their relationship to aerospace development programs.

Salary Range: $168,200 USD - $252,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
