Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Propulsion Systems, is recruiting for a Sr. Manager Subcontracts who will be responsible for managing a department of several subcontract administrators and contractors for major construction projects and associated long-lead equipment to support major facility enhancements and projects to support rocket motor manufacturing in addition to overseeing a department responsible for indirect material needed to support rocket motor manufacturing. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a department of approximately 20 people including one Manager and 8 to 10 Subcontract Administrators and support personnel
  • Direct and manage all cost, schedule, and technical requirements for major construction purchase order/contracts.
  • Supports Program Director that manages the entire program construction scope
  • Acts as the main focal point to the Manager, Buyers and subcontracts; conducts program reviews with the subcontractor and program office
  • Briefs executive management on the status and issues affecting performance and cost; responsible for putting in place mitigations and corrective actions to rectify issues
  • Responsible for and directs all phases of the subcontract from initiation of the business case through requests for proposals, subcontract management plans, negotiation strategy, and cost accountability
  • Makes decisions affecting the performance of the subcontractor and is ultimately responsible to manage its performance to meet the requirements of the business
  • Establishes milestone objectives and manages performance to committed schedules contractual specifications
  • Leads team composed of engineers, quality, and procurement personnel to drive requirements and actions internally that impact the subcontractor’s performance and ability to succeed

Expected Requirements / Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA preferred
  • 10+ years managing a department of Procurement Managers and Buyers.
  • 10+ years’ experience in construction management related activities
  • Skilled and comfortable leading and managing complex construction subcontracts
  • Extensive experience leading manufacturing construction project teams; ability to own and manage complex objectives with little oversight or direction
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate feedback in a manner that fosters collaboration, trust, and builds positive relationships
  • Ability to work in an integrated team environment and influence change
  • Experience developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies
  • Ability and comfort level to evaluate complex issues and make decisions that have high level of visibility and have significant impacts to the business
  • Ability to work in a face paced environment where unexpected requirements often arise that require swift and thorough action

Preferred Requirements / Technical Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management
  • Master of Business Administration
  • Capability to read technical drawings and documents
  • Experience leading complex programs with responsibility for cost, schedule, and scope
  • Experience implementing and executing sourcing strategies to meet program objectives
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to suppliers and internal customers
  • Understanding of the manufacturing requirements related to solid rocket motor manufacturing

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off

This position reports to Corinne, UT, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Magna, UT, UT, USA.


Salary Range: $138,400 USD - $207,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
