The Human Resources (HR) team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a candidate to join a growing community of committed HR professionals in Baltimore, MD as a Labor Relations Business Partner (LRBP).  Our HR and LR community are composed of incredible people with different abilities, diverse thinking, and varied backgrounds who find professional fulfillment in strategic thinking, change management, understanding and advocating for employees, supporting the coaching and development of the management team, and solving organizational challenges through our partnership with business leadership. 

The LRBP will be responsible for addressing labor relations matters at our BWI site in support of the Labor Relations managers and our represented workforce. This role will work closely with the LR team, hourly employees, key stakeholders, and union representatives to promote a positive, solution-driven, and productive work environment. The LRBP will be able to demonstrate leadership and relationship building skills, data analytic skills, a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Skillful verbal and written communication talents are required. The ideal candidate will have prior success building or enhancing a collaborative, supportive and understanding work environment in a unionized setting, while demonstrating the ability to work with difficult individuals.  The successful candidate will demonstrate how they have supported their prior teams through organization, problem solving, self-motivation and task ownership skills, with the ability to accomplish complex duties in a high-impact, time sensitive environment.

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with employees, union representatives, stakeholders, and managers.
  • Prepare, support, and participate in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Collaborate with LR team to develop and improve processes related to labor relations and collective bargaining administration.
  • Partner with LR Managers in conducting investigations of grievances and complaints related to labor relations issues.
  • Provide training to supervisors and employees on labor relations policies, and practices.
  • Monitor and analyze labor market trends to ensure competitiveness and support negotiations.
  • Manage labor relations projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the organization and develop solutions in partnership with leadership.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial labor relations, Human Resource management, Business, Organization Development, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or closely related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in Human Resources and/or Labor Relations or Master with 1-year related experience.
  • Proven experience in being proactive in building relationship with leaders as well as touch labor employees.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to support the business and HR / LR team with minimal task supervision, utilizing relationships to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of labor relations and understanding of applicable NLRB practices and policies.
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS platforms and technology, with preferred application experience in Workday.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and adjust direction when needed.
  • Experience in proactive HR assessment, diagnosis and solutioning of business challenges.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects to completion including organizing, planning, scheduling, and following up on all project related items.
  • Ability to support the business and HR team with minimal task supervision, utilizing relationships to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Salary Range: $67,000 USD - $100,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
