This position will be primarily located in Falls Church, VA, however we will consider a potential virtual telecommuter. The position can be hired as a Level 3 or 4 depending upon candidate's experience and education.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

Under the direction of the Manager, Talent Development, the Sr. Leadership Development Specialist is recognized as an expert in learning and development in the organization and is responsible for applying instructional design models and approaches to design, develop, evaluate and evolve leadership development curricula and programs.  The successful candidate takes a consultative approach to ensure learning and talent development solutions are consistent with the organization’s objectives.  This individual takes pride in producing high quality deliverables and applies ingenuity and innovation appropriately to achieve learning and development outcomes by building organizational capability and leadership capacity.  Additionally, this individual is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Working collaboratively with key stakeholders, subject matter experts and partners to understand and validate business needs to inform design and development of learning and development solutions for leaders at all levels within the organization

  • Leveraging the instructional design process to conduct needs assessment, identify learning objectives aligned to address needs, design the solution and evaluate/measure outcomes

  • Taking a consultative approach to identifying the best, fit for purpose talent development solution

  • Conducting research and leveraging internal and external networks to identify best and next practices in talent management and development, vendor landscape, etc., considering internal and external business, competitive and talent trends; proactively make recommendations to increase and/or accelerate the impact of talent development solutions

  • Supporting the design, delivery and facilitation of leadership development programs, including for high potential/cohort-based programs, as needed

  • Providing recommendations to incorporate modern learning approaches and technology, including learning in the flow of work, learning nudges and simulations

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience with or 4 years of work experience with a master’s degree in learning and development, talent development, instructional design, human resources, organization development or related field of study

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint)

Basic Qualifications for a Level 4:

  • At least 9 years of relevant work experience with or 7 years of work experience with a master’s degree in learning and development, talent development, instructional design, human resources, organization development or related field of study

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field

  • Practical experience (including a professional certificate or degree) as an Instructional Designer (ISD) in a corporate learning and development organization including analysis, design and development leadership development curricula

  • Skilled facilitator, with expertise in various learning environments, understanding of adult learning principles/methodologies and ability to engage learners at all leadership levels; certification a plus

  • Experience with utilizing multiple learning development technology platforms (e.g., Articulate)

  • Prior experience designing and/or project managing high potential programs

  • Advanced SharePoint, Web Design and graphic design skills a plus

  • Broad based experience as an HR Business Partner, change management, prior experience with working on larger scale OD/OE projects, and/or experience in other HR CoEs

  • Prior experience working at a large, complex matrixed environment; A&D experience a plus

  • Agile project management experience; certification as a scrum master a plus

This position reports to Falls Church, VA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Unknown City, VA, VA, USA.


Salary Range: $78,500 USD - $129,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $97,300 USD - $160,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
