This is a DevSecOps position is in a 100% Agile development environment focused on building security into ground segment and mission application software.  The Deputy Cyber Lead will coordinate multi-disciplinary activities across Ground Software Application Developers, Software Security Assurance Engineers, DevOps Infrastructure Automation Engineers, System Administrators, ISSMs, ISSEs, and ISSOs.  The goal is to ensure our Mission Unique Software is hardened and deployed in accordance with application security and platform standards, including Static and Dynamic security scanning of application software; other application layer hardening; ensuring Secure Coding Best Practices are followed; and environment/infrastructure hardening per CM Standards (STIGs); infrastructure as code (Ansible scripting, deployment/re-configuration automation).  As the Deputy Cyber Lead, strong technical qualifications with a demonstrate ability to lead complex efforts is essential.

Additional Responsibilities for a Staff Cyber Architect/Deputy Cyber Lead:

  • Leading Cyber/SSE element technical presentations during engineering milestone reviews – SRR, PDR, CDR, and PSR in accordance with our internal Cyber Systems Engineering Standards document.
  • As the Cyber/SSE thread-lead, project management experience is crucial, to include experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) within large programs required to use Earned Value Management System (EVMS).  Presenting program schedules to internal and external leadership.  Customer relations skills are paramount.
  • Working as a programmatic lead in an Agile engineering environment, where the Deputy Cyber Lead may supervise and prioritize security requirements; triage of Static Code Analysis (SCA) tool findings (e.g. Fortify);  Allocate the findings as technical debt in the SwDLC backlog.
  • Defining programmatic Cyber guidance to shepherd software development scrum teams on secure coding practices, security-focused engineering trade studies, and other security best practices for our mission unique software development efforts.
  • Ensuring the Cyber team are organized to maintain a satisfactory cadence for system vulnerability scanning, remediation and patch management activities on Windows and Red Hat operating systems and various COTS/GOTS applications, including those within virtualized and/or cloud environments. 
  • Ensuring the multi-disciplinary team are remediating security tool findings by working with software developers, systems engineers, and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical and programmatic cyber security concerns.  A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with others is an essential skill, as well as distilling and communicating technical cyber backlog (POA&Ms) to internal & external leaders.
  • Ensuring the Cyber team documents RMF System Ecurity Plan (SSP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and when needed, performing software patch installation, other flaw remediation, antivirus updates, and continuous monitoring (ConMon) activities.
  • Ensuring systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures as outlined in the system security authorization package (SSP, SCTM, ConMon Plan, RAR).
  • Championing automation efforts across all DevSecOps disciplines to routinely accomplish SCAP SCANs, developing and running NIST 800-53a Verification Procedures and automating manual STIG check lists.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM field with 14 years IT security (Cybersecurity) experience in support of USG
  • 9 years technical leadership experience
  • Must have U.S. Citizenship, with active or current TS/SCI Clearance
  • CISSP or CLSSP Certification
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes and milestones; understanding of the requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation process


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years Cyber/SSE experience in the Defense Aerospace Industry
  • 5 years experience working within restricted program areas
  • Demonstrated engineering leadership experience participating in Systems Engineering milestone reviews, as the cyber security focal

Salary Range: $177,100 USD - $265,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
