Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services in Linthicum, MD is seeking a highly motivated and detailed-oriented Systems Architect to join our team of diverse engineers in the Baltimore Washington, D.C metropolitan area. The successful candidate will join the Missions Systems Program Management Office (PMO) in the Northrop Grumman Chief Information Office as the  Cloud Architect supporting the Enterprise Distributed Network (EDN).  This position will be responsible for researching and implementation of new technologies with other service area leads.  Initial focus will be supporting the Lead Cloud Architect in the development of the AWS cloud solutions, modernizing existing infrastructure towards cloud technologies and integration with NG Cloud environments supporting a large heterogeneous unclassified computer network spanning the continental United States.  Their critical responsibility will be to initiate, plan, lead, outline and design solutions, develop service roadmaps for system modernization efforts, leveraging new technology offerings across the Information technology and DevSecOps disciplines.  The network environment includes Redhat, CentOS and Ubuntu Linux, Windows, and VMware Virtualization primarily supporting engineers com with emphasis on supporting manufacturing IoT, software and hardware development teams in an exciting environment that works on and supports industry leading technologies.  The successful candidate must possess exceptional strengths in leadership, analysis, complex technical problem solving, customer focus, communications and mentorship as the role will require collaborative efforts between the customer representatives, vendor partners, and mentorship of junior team members.

Responsibilities include system design and evaluation, hardware/software installation, requirements analysis, and developing Infrastructure-as-Code automation artifacts. Duties will also include maintaining system/software artifact documentation, developing infrastructure support procedures, and providing security support.

  • Coordinate strategic meetings and communication with MS PMO customers and partners
  • Analyzing customer requirements and creating user stories into project backlogs
  • Analyze emerging technologies and recommend inclusion in the roadmap based on customer requirements
  • Lead teams in the design and implementation for advanced cloud-based solutions
  • Lead subject matter experts to provide innovative modernization solutions for existing IT enterprise systems and cloud services
  • Design AWS cloud network and shared services architecture.
  • Perform cost analysis to identify workloads that should be migrated to public cloud providers
  • Coordinate with information security personnel for compliance with security requirements solutions
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring for systems engineers, software engineers, and systems architects
  • Leverage innovation to decrease solution costs

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or other closely related engineering discipline and 9 years of professional experience; Masters with 7years ;5 Years with PhD exp.
  • Ability to lead the design, implementation and maintenance of complex systems and networks and coordinate maintenance activities with other team members and users to produce least impact solutions.
  • Cloud experience, specifically AWS
  • Advanced understanding of virtualization technologies (Vmware or Hyper-V) and ability to design resilient systems architectures
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Javascript, Powershell or bash shell scripting)
  • Familiar with containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Linux (RHEL/CentOS) operating system
  • People leadership skills
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Willing to work flexible schedule to maintain operational capability


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Agile teams, Scrum, Lean Agile, or Kanban
  • Proficiency with Vmware Virtualization Technologies (vSphere, Horizon View VDI, vRealize Automation)
  • Experience with cyber security frameworks:  RMF, NIST-800-171, Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
  • Experience designing / architecting / transforming enterprise level services and applications
  • Any of the following preferred certifications:  AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified DevOps engineer, CompTIA Security+, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator

This position reports to Unknown City, MD, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Linthicum, MD, MD, USA.


Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
