Join our team as a Network Engineer on the Specialized Warfighter Defense Contract (SWDC) program. We have positions open at Schriever Air Force Base or Northrop Grumman campuses in Boulder and Colorado Springs. The SWDC Network Engineer will perform duties in support of the Enterprise Sensors Lab (ESL), BMDS OPIR (Overhead Persistent Infrared) Architecture (BOA) sustainment and Enterprise Sensors Processing Node (ESPN).

Primary duties include:

  • Designing and planning network communications systems.
  • Providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Providing specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Conducting testing of network design.
  • Maintaining technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Evaluating and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supporting lab operations during ground test execution with rapid response.
  • Debugging configurations as part of DevSecOps for custom modeling and simulation software.

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Network Engineer or a Sr. Principal Network Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Principal Network Engineer Level 03 requires: Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience or a master's degree and 3 years of experience. Additional 9 years of experience required in lieu of a degree.
  • Sr Principal Network Engineer Level 04 requires: Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of related experience or a master's degree and 7 years of experience. 13 years of experience required in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI.
  • Current TIASecurity + certification.
  • Basic knowledge of network testing methodologies using routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP behavior, network communications and routing protocols, network traffic analysis and troubleshooting experience.
  • Certifications in the industry vendor (Cisco or Juniper)
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Work under minimal direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sustainment of OPIR (Overhead Persistent Infrared) mission networks like BOA and SBIRS (Space Based Infrared Systems).
  • Experience with configuration and integration of cyber security tools like EMass and HBSS.
  • Experience deploying systems into an operational network with CM measures.

This position reports to Boulder, CO, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 2 locations listed above.


Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
