Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network – Network Engineer III (25-008) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
In this role, the candidate will serve as a Network Development Engineer supporting build-out and deployments to the operational environment as necessary. The candidate will work within an agile scrum team and plan work based on customer requirements and program contractual agreements.
Essential Functions:
- Primary Network Engineer supporting the C2BMC Program
- Experience in planning, deploying, integrating, and testing upgrades to the C2BMC network and operational sites
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 3 years of experience, or 9 years of related experience instead of a degree.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
- DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) is required to start
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
- Must be experienced as a network engineer with hands-on mid-level experience and knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies
- Must understand:
- OSI Model
- TCP/IP
- Routing protocols BGP and OSPF
- Must have network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills
- Must have firewall experience:
- Juniper
- Fortinet
- Palo Alto
- Required experience in:
- UDP multicast
- SONET
- MSPP
- VLANs
- GRE Tunnels
- TCP/IP network designs
- Must have hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizer, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment
- Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio
- Must thrive and do your best work in a collaborative and agile environment
- Must understand standard DOD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts
- Familiarization with virtualization technologies:
- NFV
- SDWAN
- VMware
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current and active Top Secret is highly desired
- Cloud Foundation, NSX, vSAN, and Aria are highly desired
- Experience with network automation using Ansible is highly desired
- Prior C2BMC experience
