The Sensing & Secured Solutions Teams are hiring! We are seeking an experienced Staff Network Engineer who will design and plan network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options. Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network. Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network. May be assigned responsibility for the management of the systems administration function, including associated staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a range of network, system, security, and software administration functions.

  •  Network Administration skills include Route/Switch/Firewall administration, VLAN implementation, PXE boot use/configuration, DHCP, DNS, VLAN Knowledge; System Administration skills include Active Directory Domain administration knowledge, administering Group policies, ADUC account creation, Managing FTP/SMB servers; Network Security skills include Understanding of an Intrusion Detection System (IDS), ability to read and translate SNORT rules, perform PCAP analysis; Software skills include ability to perform Extract Transform Lead (ETL) scripting, conducting RDBMS admin/query, consuming APIS, and Web scraping.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A current and active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph is required.

  • 14+ years of experience as a Network Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university. 18+ years of experience as a NE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity with no degree can also be accepted.

  • Current Cisco CCNP certification is required.

  • Experience with enterprise level network design, engineering and administration.

  • Experience with common networking devices such as firewalls, switches, and fabric interconnects. Commonly used brands include Cisco, McAfee, and Palo Alto

  • Experience interfacing with customer POCs to evaluate networking needs or requirements and explain technical terms to non-technical

  • Configure and maintain organization’s network diagrams and accreditations

  • Integrate hardware and software to satisfy ISO 9000 requirements and other DoD/OC regulations.

  • Designs and plans network communications systems.

  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.

  • Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.

  • Conducts testing of network design.

  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.

  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Network/System Engineering and Administration: Cisco, Brocade, GPON technology knowledge is a plus, PXE Boot architecture, AWS EC2/S3, Computer Hardware: Basic troubleshooting, BIOS setting (UEFI/BIOS), Microcomputers (Raspberry Pi/Beagle Bone), Network Security: Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) installation and maintenance, SNORT create and deploy rules, Advanced PCAP analysis (TShark, MiTMProxy), IDS log analysis. 

  • Analysis of web logs, proxy logs, and firewall logs, Software Development: Proficient in one or more computer languages (compiled or interpreted), Advanced ETL scripting in Powershell/python/bash, Web application development and scraping, MS Office Macros, Web server administration, Database systems (SQL/NOSQL), High level languages (C/C++/Java).

Salary Range: $146,000 USD - $219,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
