Maintains smooth operation of local area, Wide Area and virtual private networks (VPN). Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, gateways, etc. Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. Design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.
The Enterprise Server Storage and Networks team is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to perform network configuration and network management efforts, integrating and supporting the current established enterprise network at our Baltimore locations. These efforts constitute significant impact to the business on key programs. The successful candidate will bring in depth technical knowledge of enterprise level experience with managed network equipment. The candidate will need to be able to manage multiple efforts of short and long-term duration that are of significant influence to the network, storage and server infrastructure at the site. The candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to define large-scale project scope, required tasks to achieve stated goal, project deliverable and artifacts definition, project timeline development, scheduling, budget creation and resource management.
Responsibilities include detailed engineering plan, design and implementation of network installations in accordance with standard policies and procedures for design review, installation, maintenance, and documentation. Provide support of technical analysis of project requirements, prepare design review package and execution of approved design. Execution of corrective action to support problem resolution of infrastructure hardware and software elements to ensure availability of firewall infrastructure and components.
Additionally, a successful candidate will have the ability to interface directly with vendors at a high technical level on existing enterprise solutions and new services technical requirements/deliverables and develop technical solutions to complex problems, requiring the regular use of their ingenuity and creativity. This individual will represent the organization as a technical contact on multiple projects. Interacts with Team Lead, peers, and our business partner on various technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. This candidate will be based at our site in Baltimore, MD.
Demonstrated performance in working in a fast-paced environment delivering a high degree of quality and customer satisfaction. Flexible hours are required. Also, candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills and has a strong willingness to learn.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR Associate's Degree and 7 years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma and 9 years of relevant experience.
Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, and weekends as well as after-hours remote on call support.
Proven ability to define large-scale project scope, required tasks to achieve stated goal, project deliverable and artifacts definition, project timeline development, scheduling, budget creation and resource management.
Demonstrated ability to interface directly with vendors at a high technical level on existing enterprise solutions and new services technical requirements/deliverables and develop technical solutions to complex problems, requiring the regular use of their ingenuity and creativity.
Demonstrated performance in working in a fast-paced environment delivering a high degree of quality and customer satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading enterprise projects for networks and storage.
Experience designing network solutions.
Experience leading network implementation projects.
Project management certification a plus.
Experience using test equipment such as the Network Associates Sniffer, cable and fiber optics test sets, and other protocol analyzers is highly desirable.
Cisco and Palo Alto Firewalls a plus.
DOD Secret clearance a plus.
Cisco Wireless networking and management
WAN Optimization a plus (Riverbed technology)
