Northrop Grumman is seeking a Linux System Administrator to perform system administration, network administration and cyber security supporting submarine training systems development for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI.  You will work with latest generation Intel based servers. Linux cluster configurations and virtualization architectures using both VMWare vSphere and Redhat KVM.  You will support developers supporting software development toolsets including source control management, software development environments, and overall Linux System Administration.  You will contribute to the design, development implementation and deployment of simulation/stimulation-based training systems infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position are to install, and integrate software development infrastructure that is used to produce software and systems to for both the Naval Submarine and Surface Ship fleets.

Responsibilities:

  • Design computer systems and networks to support development infrastructure and high-fidelity submarine trainers
  • Install and maintain operating systems
  • Design and implement efficient backup solutions for system infrastructure
  • Monitor and test application performance to identify issues with installation, performance, and identify possible solutions while working with developers to implement fixes
  • Develop and support build process
  • Troubleshoot computer systems and networking to diagnose and suggest/implement potential solutions
  • Support hardware and software installation of IT computing equipment and cabling of system infrastructure

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree i and 6 years’ experience or Master's degree 3 years' experience or High School Diploma / Equivalent with 10 years' experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with Cisco switch/router configuration development and deployment
  • Experience installing Linux
  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Understanding of software development and deployment
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Able to work on site at Middletown RI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Security Clearance
  • Current IAT Level I Certifications
    • Network+
    • Security+
    • Linux+
  • Linux and Cisco Certifications
  • Scripting skills (e.g., bash shell scripts)
  • Networking knowledge (OSI Network Layers, TCP/IP, DHCP)
  • Computer/Electronics Hardware knowledge
  • Intel server configurations
  • KVM architectures
  • Experience with System Build Automation Tools (Linux kickstart, Puppet, Windows Deployment Server (WDS))
  • Configuration management experience with both centralized and distributed version control systems (e.g., SVN and Git) and the best practices for using them, as well as familiarity with different software CM development workflows, branching and merging strategies
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, preferably Red Hat KVM (e.g., Red Hat KVM, VMware, libvirt/virsh)

Salary Range: $90,600 USD - $136,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
