Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is looking for you to join our team as a Principal or Sr Principal Network Engineer based out of Fairfax, VA

What You’ll get to Do:

Design and plan network communications systems. Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Provide specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluate and report on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Network Engineer or Senior Principal Network Engineer grade based on the qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications

  • Principal: Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5+years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 3+ years, or PhD with 0+ years; 9+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree requirement.

  • Sr. Principal: Bachelor's degree in STEM with 9+years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 7+ years, or PhD with 4+ years; 13+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree requirement.

  • Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI eligibility, and willingness to sit for a poly security clearance

  • Experience with Layer 1 implementation

  • Experience with Layer 2 configuration, administration, maintenance

  • Knowledge and experience with configuration, administration, maintenance of various network protocols

    • Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)

    • Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)

    • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)

  • Experience with firewall configuration, administration and management

  • Experience with Network Topology diagrams

  • Ability to obtain a CompTIA Security+ CE certification (IAT II or higher) within the first 6 months of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with poly

  • A valid CompTIA Security+ CE certification (IAT II or higher)

  • Cybersecurity domain expertise within the defense industry ideally working with different communities

  • Experience with Civil Engineering projects

  • Understanding of IPV4 Network sub/super netting, CIDR, and DNS

  • Understanding and experience designing and maintaining a large scale Multicast deployment, to include IGMP and PIM protocols

  • Familiarity with configuration, administration, maintenance of SolarWinds software

  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using SysML

  • Experience briefing at formal milestone reviews

  • Experience in working with multiple subcontractors


Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
