Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is looking to hire a Principal or Senior Principal Information Systems Project Manager to support Strategic Launcher Systems Operating Unit located in Sunnyvale, CA. This position may be flexible for hybrid work arrangements, but will be primarily onsite.

This role leads and directs one or more project teams engaged in the design, implementation and modification of IT projects that span across functional organizations. Prepares project execution plan and identifies appropriate technical and business resources needed for the team. Ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget and meets technical requirements of the assignment. Keeps current on advances in the field of IT. Provides technical and analytical guidance to project team.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provide Project Management of classified program IT infrastructure (computing, data management, collaboration/ conferencing tools) in coordination with Program Management and Security. 

  • Maximize shared resources and cross-program access, coordinating with Security and Contracts to establish necessary enabling permissions/terms.

  • Establish Program/ Technical Roadmaps to prepare for/ implement customer vision for long-term Knowledge Management practices and supporting infrastructure.  Serve as NG representative to customer working groups.

  • Coordinate with Security/Contracts to enable consistent program OPSEC approaches and implementation, including coordination with other LS OU worksites to enable consistent OU and program implementation.

  • In coordination with Program Management, oversee program implementation of effective knowledge management tools, practices, and enabling IT infrastructure (SharePoint, Confluence, HPC, Network Drives, etc)

  • Manage project plans for integration of Digital Transformation toolset into Programs, coordinating with IT and Engineering.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, IT, and Programs to oversee planning and implementation of Rapid Prototyping facility infrastructure (i.e. “FabLab”)

  • Coordinate with customer and industry partners on opportunities for collaboration and implementation of Digital Transformation toolsets within the program

  • Assist the project management leadership team in assessing, documenting, and tracking of all new assigned project requirements.

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of customers life-cycles, standards, and supporting processes and practices.

  • Develop customer relationships and cultivate customer intimacy.

  • Prepare project execution plans and identify the appropriate technical and business resources required.

  • Work as a liaison between teams regarding the plan, design, configure, and install network hardware in support of customer requirements.

  • Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, switches, gateways, etc.

  • Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.

  • Create and ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.

  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems.

  • Perform troubleshooting analysis of network infrastructure and associated systems

  • Interface regularly with customers and manage customer installation timelines and deliverables to help facilitate successful deployments.

  • Track Program needs and provide Project Management (Planning, Coordination, Implementation) of Capital Investment to enable any of the above.

Principal Information Systems PM (T3) Basic Qualifications

  • 6 Years with Bachelors in Science; 4 Years with Masters

Senior Principal Information Systems PM (T4) Basic Qualifications

  • 10 Years with Bachelors in Science ; 8 Years with Masters

Both will require the following:

  • Experience with business & IT strategy and with Microsoft Project and project management related software.

  • Must have an Active and able to maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Must have experience with project planning, scheduling and cost performance / Earned Value Management

  • Problem solving skills with integrated team including but not exclusive to the program manager, functional managers, and customers.

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with various levels of leadership.

  • Must have experience leading and managing multiple concurrent and complex project assignments.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience with project management tools and presenting project data such as status, risk, and deliverables to key stakeholders.

  • Experience leading and managing IT related projects in an Agile environment. 

  • Experience using tools that support agile processes such as JIRA and Confluence.

  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework and working as part of an Agile Development (Scrum) team.

  • Experience with Multiple Agile teams in different organizations.

This position reports to Sunnyvale, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Cape Canaveral, FL, FL, USA.


Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
