Northrop Grumman has an opening for a Sr. Principal Linux Administrator to join the Electronics and Payloads Special Test Equipment Engineering (STEE) team. In this role, you will become part of Northrop Grumman's Space programs that provides specialized IT support to Restricted, DOD, and Unclassified systems and environments.  This position is based in Redondo Beach, CA.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Administration of Linux (RHEL/CENTOS) 5/6/7/8 servers and workstations in a production environment

  • Implementation of Security controls for Linux Servers and workstations

  • Extensive experience in the deployment of I&T lab environments

  • Proven ability to Task and Resource manage to meet program milestones.

  • Experience using Compliance and Remediation tools (i.e., Nessus, SCC SCAP scanner, STIG Viewer)

  • On call, 24/7 pager support during critical phases of testing, contingency operations, and off-site as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree and 7 years of engineering experience OR a PhD. Degree and 4 years of experience

  • Possess a current Security+ certification.

  • Minimum of 5 years working experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 5/6/7/8 servers and workstations

  • Working experience of user authentication services such as LDAP and Red Hat Directory Server

  • Ability to install RHEL operating system from media as well as utilizing Kickstart to customize and install packages including using YUM. Experience in scripting and interpreting shell scripts and ability to create scripts in bash.

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with a current or active Secret level clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with a current or active Top Secret/SCI with polygraph clearance. With a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years with recent polygraph withing last 5 years.

  • Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years

  • Experience in scripting and interpreting shell scripts and ability to create scripts in bash.

  • Working experience with storage appliances, in particular working with Network Appliance (NetApp) experience helpful

  • Solid understanding of computer networking (DNS, WINS, TCP, IP Addressing, Default-Gateway etc.)

  • Experienced in the implementation of CMMC/DFARS/RMF/DOD Security Controls on Linux operating systems (i.e., RHEL SSG builds)

  • Extensive experience installing, configuring, and operating VMWare and KVM virtualization environments.

  • Advanced working experience with scripting languages and automation such as bash, ansible etc.

  • Working knowledge and experience of Linux networking and file sharing protocols such as ISCSI, FCoE, LUNS, NIS, CIFS and NFS.

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux server applications (i.e., Samba, NFS, Chrony, Web servers and MySQL databases)

  • Experience working with vendors in the identification of new hardware/software technologies to meet program requirements.

This position reports to Redondo Beach, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Manhattan Beach, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
