We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal/Sr. Principal Cybersecurity Systems Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA. As a Principal/Sr. Principal Cybersecurity Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What you’ll get to do:

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software.  In this role, the Cybersecurity Systems Engineer (SE) assesses and tests system cyber security requirements, system security architecture, and system security layout. Additionally, a Cyber SE performs cyber -attack path analysis of system architectures and is responsible for the security governance, risk management, and compliance of a system while it is being engineered for the customer.

  • Planning, establishing program requirement, managing the overall Cybersecurity effort and managing Cybersecurity baseline.
  • Responsible for CAM duties, proposals, assessment of current and future equipment as well as training for system modifications. Establish cyber security requirements and support product development, while developing cyber security artifacts for authoring and maintaining critical program documents such as Cybersecurity Strategies, System Security Plans, Continuous Monitoring Plans, Security Assessment Plans, etc.
  • Perform as primary Systems Administrator for computer systems including hardening, STIGging, installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, creating and monitoring accounts, and configuration management
  • Provide backup, recovery services, and manage virus protection on a routine basis
  • Lead/Participate in cyber security assessment and test activities, as well as team reviews of cyber security assessment methods, plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Participate in team reviews of technical requirements, design and implementation plans prior to deployment of systems, computer architectures, and computer security penetration tools and techniques.
  • Provide cyber security implementation guidance to technical design teams.
  • Partner and collaborate with other program systems engineers to accomplish program requirements and meet mission objectives.
  • Ensure systems compliance with all contractually obligated cyber security standards and guidance.
  • Develop and document technical standard engineering processes and procedures as needed.
  • Provide input to program milestones and metrics, adhering to cyber security-relevant plans and schedules.
  • Identify problems and research technical solutions to resolve these problems.
  • Apply analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of Cyber Security implementation.
  • Propose and design systems architecture changes with traceability to requirements.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Principal:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • US Citizenship with current Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Possess a DOD 8570 certification such as SEC+, CASP+, CEH, or CISSP 

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 9 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 7 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 4 years relevant experience.
  • US Citizenship with current Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Possess a DOD 8570 certification such as SEC+, CASP+, CEH, or CISSP 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Design and operational knowledge of navy programs
  • Ability to read and interpret government or military specifications
  • Experience with proposals
  • Experience in a Systems Engineering role with responsibilities in the planning, testing, and reporting of cyber assessment findings from systems under test with additional preference for experience in Model Based Systems Engineering and related tools
  • Proven collaboration with program managers and customer representatives to meet program objectives
  • Proven success analyzing, estimating, and implementing solutions to complex problems spanning multiple engineering disciplines
  • Ability to calmly negotiate challenging program requirements, strategies, and conflicting constraints among a large and diverse group of program stakeholders
  • Experience in Cybersecurity Accreditation processes and procedures
  • Experience in a Systems Engineering role with responsibilities in the planning, designing, implementation, testing, and delivery of a system with Cybersecurity requirements
  • Ability to calmly negotiate challenging program requirements, strategies, and conflicting constraints among a large and diverse group of program stakeholders
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), negotiation, coordination and interpersonal skills


Salary Range: $115,200 USD - $172,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $142,800 USD - $214,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
