NG- Military Internship Program Description:  

As one of the largest global security companies in the world, Northrop Grumman is proud to help our nation’s military personnel make the transition to civilian careers. Approximately 1/4th of Northrop Grumman’s 90,000 employees self-identify as veterans, and more than 1,600 are reservists.

The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. The NG-MIP program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. 

  

Responsibilities for this internship position are:

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for SkillBridge.  During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program. 

• Goals – Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training.  Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.

• Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly-trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

• Outcome – Offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Northrop Grumman team.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:

• Has served at least 180 days on active duty

• Is within 12 months of separation or retirement

• Will receive an honorable discharge

• Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS

• Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

• Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.

Job Description:

Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services is seeking a well-qualified Principal Network Communications Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse, and dynamic team of technical professionals. This position will be located in the Roy, UT area. 

Roles and responsibilities will include:

• Maintain smooth operation of LAN/WAN/VPNs.  

• Plan, design, configure, and install network hardware in support of customer requirements.

• Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, switches, gateways, etc.

• Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.

• Create and ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.

• Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems.

• Perform troubleshooting analysis of network infrastructure and associated systems.  

• Configure, install, and maintain network devices to include routers, switches, and firewalls.

• Implement and troubleshoot LAN technologies such as VLANs, Trunking (port tagging), Spanning-Tree, and Port Security.

• Provide third-level support and troubleshooting of network problems; periodically provide after-hours and weekend support.

• Implement and troubleshoot WAN technologies such as EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, and telco circuits (T1, T3, OC3).

• Interface regularly with customers and manage customer installation timelines and deliverables to help facilitate successful deployments.

• Design and implement an enterprise network; recommend data, voice, or video network investment decisions to management and customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future network performance, stability, and network management issues.

Basic Qualifications:

• Associate's degree and 5 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience, or Master's degree and 2 years of experience; a High School diploma or equivalent and 8 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.

• Must have current CompTIA Security Plus (or higher) certification.

• Must have current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) (or higher) certification.

• Must have experience designing and maintaining LAN, WAN, and Cloud based networks; experience with managing routing protocols over Enterprise level environments; and experience with configuring, installing, and maintaining network hardware from Cisco and Palo Alto.

• Must have experience configuring, installing, and maintaining encryption devices (TACLANES) as well as operating General Dynamic’s GEM One and/or GEM X Enterprise Encryptor Management server.

• Must have experience with implementing security best practices to include management of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ICE) and Cisco Terminal Access Controller Access-Control System Plus (TACACS+); experience with operating and maintaining Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM); and experience with Microsoft Office, Visio, Project, PowerPoint, and Excel.

• Must have demonstrated experience in the use of network analysis tools (i.e. WireShark, Opnet, SolarWinds, etc.).

• Must have the ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and the ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.

• Must have an Active, In-Scope DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher with an original adjudication or periodic re-investigation date completed within the past 6 years in order to be considered; maintaining the required clearance will be a condition of continued employment; the selected candidate may be required to obtain a Top Secret DoD security clearance depending on customer and/or program requirements.

• Must have the ability to obtain Special Access Programs (SAP) within a period of time as determined by program and/or customer requirements, as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IS related field with 5 years of experience.

• Previous experience troubleshooting network procedures and best practices; experience with network challenges associated with systems integration, including COTS integration, capacity analysis, and system architecture design.

• Current CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) or Cisco Certified Network Professional Security or equivalent security certification

• Current Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification

• Skilled with troubleshooting network procedures and best practices; experience with network challenges associated with systems integration, including COTS integration, capacity analysis and system architecture design

• Skilled designing and maintaining LAN, WAN, and Cloud based networks

• Skilled with managing routing protocols over Enterprise level environments

Salary Range: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
