The Staff Network Engineer is responsible network infrastructure design, development, and 1st Article deployment of Complex Network Solutions.  Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative.  Proposes Network solutions to management and customers and provides the technical leadership to a team of Network Engineers while delivering those solutions.  Establishes technology framework, standards, and methodologies.  Creates network documentation, including Network Designs, Work Instructions, Processes, Procedures, and Instructional Guides for Network Operations.  Reviews and recommends hardware and tools selection.  Provides Tier III analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of network related issues. Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.  Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final deliverable.  Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs.  Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.  Interacts customers, vendors, cross functional team member, and leadership.

This position will be virtual remote and can be performed anywhere within the continental United States.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of relevant experience OR Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant experience OR PhD and 9 years of relevant experience (Will consider additional experience in lieu of education ie Associates degree and 16 years of experience OR High School Diploma and 18 years of experience)

  • Thorough knowledge of Cisco Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Access Points and Wireless Lan Controllers

  • Experience designing and maintaining WiFi environments

  • Experience designing and maintaining LAN & WAN based networks

  • Experience with managing routing protocols on large LAN environments

  • Expertise with IPv4 and IPv6 network design, including IP subnetting and protocols including BGP, OSPF and EIGRP

  • Knowledgeable with network management protocols, like SNMP, SSH, syslog, RADIUS/TACACS

  • Familiarity with Palo Alto firewalls and Silver Peak SD-WAN devices

  • Familiarity with network analysis tools (i.e. WireShark, SolarWinds, Opnet, NetProfiler, etc…)

  • Ability to operate as part of an engineering team and provide technical leadership

  • Ability to interact with senior customer organizations and personnel

  • Ability to work in SAFe Agile framework

  • Secret clearance or ability to obtain one

  • US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAFe Agile certification

  • 5G experience

  • CWNE Certification

  • Active Secret clearance or higher

  • AWS or Azure certification

This position reports to Unknown City, VA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 8 locations listed above.


Salary Range: $132,700 USD - $199,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
