An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, Spacecraft Components is a leading designer, producer, and supplier of spacecraft components that power and enable satellites of all classes. Products include spacecraft panels, bus structures, precision optical structures, deployable structural systems and mechanisms, solar arrays, and antenna reflectors. Our products are on virtually every U.S. satellite built in the last 20 years.

Our San Diego, CA site is in search of  Manufacturing Technician 1 to join our growing team.  

 

Successful candidates will work 1st Shift (5:00am – 2:30pm) 2nd Shift (1:00pm – 10:30pm) or 3rd Shift (8:00pm - 5:30am). 

 

Roles and Responsibilities  

  • Perform functions associated with all manufacturing operations in layup and panel fabrication. 

  • Handling and managing fragile composite materials 

  • Prep, lay-up and bonding of composite products. 

  • Experience with layup of uni-directional and weave pre-pregs 

  • May report status/progress and interface with other employees and departments. 

  • Tooling preparation and release application. 

  • Utilize measurement tools such as calipers, rulers, and tape measures for fabricating hardware. 

  • Assist in maintaining overall shop appearance and cleanliness. 

  • Execute to written instructions. 

 

Basic Qualifications:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent and or 0 - 2 years additional education and/or related discipline. 

  • Must be a US Citizen. 

  • Excels in a team environment. 

  • Ability to work under limited supervision. 

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds. 

  • Ability to be on feet for up to 8+ hours each day. 

  • Ability to work Overtime and Weekends as needed. 

     

     

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Demonstrated Mechanical Ability. 

  • Proficient use of basic shop arithmetic. 

  • Standard computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office: Word and Excel. 

  • Able to read, write and work to written instructions, blueprints, or shop drawings in English. 

  • Initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence. 

  • Experience working in a composites/manufacturing  environment (space/satellite structures, aerospace manufacturing environment) 

  • Experience or familiarity with ISO requirements, standards, and compliance issues. 

  • Experience with cranes and rigging, forklifts, and similar manufacturing equipment 

  • Ability to work under limited supervision. 

Salary range: $38,700 - $64,500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
