Roles and Responsibilities:

The Machining Manufacturing Manager 1 is responsible for the direct supervision of employees and processes in a manufacturing environment. The Manager provides direction to employees utilizing management guidelines and general policies. Overall responsibilities include: driving employee efficiency, meeting product schedule and cost targets, managing the area to produce quality products, and engaging employees to achieve their highest potential.

The Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of approximately 10 employees and processes in a Manufacturing and Machining Environment. This position is for 2nd shift (1:00 pm - 10:30pm)

The Manager is expected to work independently across organizations; manage the use of machining equipment, tooling and consumables to achieve budgetary targets; assign and manage Machinist and or Machine Operators to maximize efficiency and throughput to achieve departmental target goals; lead, implement Continuous Improvement activities (CI) to improve quality, throughput and affordability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, provide oversight and guidance for Machine Shop Aircraft Value Stream

  • Directs and coordinates the activities to plan, prepare, issue, and control production schedules, in conjunction with Master Scheduling, to meet production/delivery requirements.

  • Oversees the status of work in process, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that equipment, materials, and services are available, as needed.

  • Provide technical direction to subordinates using established policies and precedents.

  • Assigns and manage staff to maximize efficiency and achieve schedule and target production yields.

  • Interface with internal and external customer providing status updates and forecasting.

  • Develop, maintain, and update departmental procedures to ensure compliance relative to site standards and practices.

  • Lead, Develop and Promote 5S / Lean Practices and Culture

  • Utilizes both internal and external resources to coordinate functional activities with quality assurance, master scheduling, manufacturing lead and managers, supply chain, engineering, inventory control, production control, etc

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 0 years of relevant experience with a PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree

  • At least 3 years of experience in a machining, manufacturing, production, engineering environment

  • At least 2 years of experience in management or leadership of people and/or projects

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret Level Security Clearance. (US citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ Years’ experience towards Conventional and CNC Machining 

  • 3+ Years’ experience towards Multi-Axis CNC Programming

  • 5+ Years’ experience towards managing a Machine Shop

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing Tools and Techniques

  • Experience with composites and ceramic materials a plus

Salary Range: $92,600 USD - $138,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
