Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Milling Machinist 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our E-2D Manufacturing Organization. This role will be located in Saint Augustine, Florida.

The selected candidate will require knowledge of Aircraft Structural fabrication, assembly, and installations. Complete acquaintance with an understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and apply practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.

Position Summary:

Sets up and operates plain or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours; boring compound angular holes; doing helical and spiral milling; keyway cutting to exacting tolerances. Selects, mounts, and aligns various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling; plans sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; determines, sets, and adjusts speeds, feeds, and depth of cut; interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations; and measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Fabrication of parts, assemblies, installations, and repair of production metal products using HAAS CNC machines 
  • Experienced and familiar with blueprints, drawings, and specifications 
  • Operate under restrictive policies regarding FOE (Foreign Object Debris), clean as you go, and house keeping 
  • Adhere to safety policies nit limited to safety glasses. Proper PPE (personal protective equipment), and hazardous waste requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years related experience operating a CNC machine in a aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to develop and build prototype detail parts
  • Must be able to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working overhead
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Clearance within a reasonable amount of time
  • Ability to pass a new hire Physical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an Aviation Rapid Prototype and/or Experimental Fabrication Environment
  • Knowledge of MasterCam2023 Cam programing
  • Some experience using NX or CAD modeling programs
  • Experience in a team environment
  • Innovative and self-motivated
  • Active Secret DoD Clearance last investigated within 5 1/2 years.

Salary Range: $48,800 USD - $81,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
