Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for a Principal Engineer NDT/ Sr. Principal Engineer NDT for our Mission Assurance team in Palmdale, CA.

Our NDT team works daily on some of Northrop Grumman’s most technologically advanced aircraft and our site is uniquely suited for the development, prototyping, production and testing of military aircraft systems, both manned and unmanned. The highly specialized manufacturing and engineering facility is located on the Government owned/Contractor operated (GOCO) U.S. Air Force Plant 42. Northrop Grumman occupies about 75% of Plant 42’s various sites. Every day employees can see their hard work take off and land on the flight test runway.

Principal Engineer NDT/ Sr. Principal Engineer NDT responsibilities;

Responsible for the inspection composite aerospace components, and other energetic and non-energetic articles. This position is responsible for developing and implementing unique nondestructive inspection techniques, methods, and procedures. Works with design, project and quality engineers through the development process to select and implement the best NDT method to ensure product quality at lowest cost.

Principal NDT Engineer Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years experience, with 5 plus years as a Ultrasonic Level III OR Highschool Diploma with 9 years experience with 5 years as a Ultrasonic Level III in lieu of degree

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Active DoD Clearance per business requirements AND the ability to obtain Special Program Access

  • Must be able to work any shift

  • Must be able to pass an Eye Exam prior to start.

Sr. Principal NDT Engineer Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 9 plus years experience with 5 years as a Ultrasonic Level III OR Highschool Diploma with 13 years experience with 5 years as a Ultrasonic Level III in lieu of degree

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Active DoD Clearance per business requirements AND the ability to obtain Special Program Access

  • Must be able to work any shift

  • Must be able to pass an Eye Exam prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multiple Level III ASNT certifications

  • DoD Secret Clearance

  • Special Program Access


Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
