The Thermal Test Department is seeking a Principal Test Conductor (Thermal Test Lab Operations) with electronics and mechanical skill set to support thermal vacuum and cycle testing of complex flight and development hardware. Candidate must possess strong communication and technical writing skills, a demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles, and an ability and desire to learn and problem solve.  Preferred candidate will be a self-starter able to work independently and lead small teams. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directly support Thermal Test Management to plan and perform test operations with limited oversight, across disciplines and departments.

  • Define and manage team tasking, supervise and mentor technicians during assembly and test of hardware

  • Provide training to junior personnel in procedure execution, technical concepts, test setup and equipment maintenance\

  • Provides feedback to management for individual performance of assigned Thermal Technicians.

  • Review testing requirements and provide hardware/test recommendations to procedures or components to achieve testing specifications

  • Lead advanced troubleshooting activities to assess anomalies and develop resolutions in conjunction with Test and Quality Engineering

  • Lead the configuration, maintenance, and operation of Thermal Test equipment.

  • Ability to perform touch labor when required.

  • Ability to work off hours and weekends.

  • Execute special assignments in support of the functional home room

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 5 years’ of combined experience supporting integration, test or assembly of mechanical hardware; OR Master’s Degree with a minimum 3 years’ of combined experience supporting integration, test or assembly of mechanical hardware; OR High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) plus 9 years’ of combined experience supporting integration, test or assembly of mechanical hardware

  • Leadership experience on a project and/or team

  • Demonstrated experience in executing procedures and setting up tests.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain active in-scope SCI clearance access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience handling space flight hardware

  • Experience with Thermal Testing, including operating and maintaining thermal chambers and support equipment

  • Active in-scope SCI clearance access.


Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
