An organization within Northrop Grumman Space Systems' Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, the Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU) seeks a Mission Assurance Director 1 to join our diverse team of professionals.

The Director of Mission Assurance will lead a team responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of mission assurance and quality principles and processes for the INS BU at our Aurora, CO, Colorado Springs, CO and Redondo Beach, CA locations. Functional responsibilities include Program Mission Assurance; Software Assurance and Quality Assurance.

This position will be located at the INS BU facility in Aurora, CO.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership that fosters an inclusive, motivated and engaged work culture. Driving the continuous improvement of people (to include training & development), products, processes, systems and services through the application of innovative technologies, lean principles, six-sigma projects, common best practices and other appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Staffing, cost, schedule and quality performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with mission assurance programs, policies, processes, procedures and that the performance and quality of products/processes conform to established standards, specifications and agency guidelines.
  • Support the development phase of programs by assuring engineering products and processes conform to internal and customer requirements.
  • Establishes the overall strategies, objectives, and long-term goals of the Mission Assurance functions within the Business Unit.
  • Maintains strong customer relationships and acts as a liaison with customers to understand and improve business unit quality performance partnerships.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves upon safety and mission assurance processes within the business unit and in support of the Payload and Ground Systems Division.
  • Ensures the mission readiness of products relative to physical and functional requirements.  
  • Ensures review of product and process data to identify weaknesses in processes and appropriate actions taken to mitigate weaknesses.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of related experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry; MS degree 10 years of exp; or PhD with 7 years of exp
  • 7 years of management/leadership experience. 
  • Quality or Mission Assurance experience working all phases of a product life cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple functions.
  • Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive leadership experience, preferably in Quality or Mission Assurance within the Aerospace and Defense industry
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into business action plans and successfully execute.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple functions across geographically dispersed sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop managers.
  • Demonstrated superior customer relationship skills
  • Active TS/SCI clearance. 
  • MS or MBA degree 


Salary Range: $177,400 USD - $266,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
