NG- Military Internship Program Description:  

As one of the largest global security companies in the world, Northrop Grumman is proud to help our nation’s military personnel make the transition to civilian careers. Approximately 1/4th of Northrop Grumman’s 90,000 employees self-identify as veterans, and more than 1,600 are reservists.

The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29 .The NG-MIP program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Northrop Grumman Military internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. 

  

Responsibilities for this internship position are:

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for SkillBridge.  During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program. 

Goals – Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training.  Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.

Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly-trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

Outcome – Offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Northrop Grumman team.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility: 

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty

  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement

  • Will receive an honorable discharge

  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS

  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Production Test Technician 3 or 4-Radio frequency testing of Composite Structures, Randomes, and Antenna Systems for military applications to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be supporting our Beavercreek, and Kettering, OH. facilities, and requires onsite presence due to the nature of the role.

Production Testing has various responsibilities including radio frequency and electronic testing with duties as assigned in our Beavercreek and Kettering locations in support of plant wide operations.  Work in this position includes test and evaluation of manufactured products and in process testing using state of the art electronic test equipment, anechoic chamber test facilities, and in the less cooperative factory environment as well. 

Our team advances the Aerospace Structures Business Unit through the application of multidisciplinary engineering approaches and problem solving.  We pride ourselves on technical excellence and our ability to drive positive change.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • RF circuit testing, tuning, and assembly

  • Radar cross section measurements using the linear FM homodyne radar test set in an uncooperative environment

  • Transmission and reflection arch measurements using a vector network analyzer

  • Soldering and assembly.  (J-STD certification a plus)

  • Electronic and supporting mechanical system repair, calibration, and maintenance

  • In process measurements in support of low-rate manufacturing operations

  • Radar cross section measurements within the compact range including execution of predetermined test matrices and directed R&D efforts

  • Antenna pattern and gain measurements within the Anechoic Chamber

  • Antenna and RF network VSWR measurements

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently and excels in a team environment.  They should possess a good math and science aptitude, should possess good verbal and written communication skills, be able to work with limited supervision, be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and climb a ladder on a continuous basis, has an aptitude and desire to learn the practical application of the RF test environment and the theory behind the work you do.  Has experience in operation of various electronic test instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector network analyzers, multi-meters, time domain reflectometers and power meters.  Has some mechanical and electrical aptitude with a demonstrated ability to learn new skills and follow written procedures. Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement with a focus on customer service excellence.

*This is primarily a first shift position, but should have the ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts occasionally based on demanding manufacturing schedules.

Basic Qualifications Production Test Technician 3:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions

  • Ability to perform analysis using standard productivity and reporting tools

  • Experienced in RF testing of composite structures

  • Ability to understand basic Physics and Engineering Principles and the ability to apply those to analysis and practical problem solving

  • Ability to operate 3D modeling software

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Basic Qualifications Production Test Technician 4:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions

  • Ability to perform analysis using standard productivity and reporting tools

  • Experienced in RF testing of composite structures

  • Ability to understand basic Physics and Engineering Principles and the ability to apply those to analysis and practical problem solving

  • Ability to operate 3D modeling software

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in RCS testing

  • Test bench experience assembling electronic circuits and or antenna systems

  • Technical School or an Associate's degree

  • 4 years of relevant inspection/testing experience as an electronics technician or similar electrical work

This position reports to Beavercreek, OH, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Kettering, OH, OH, USA.


Salary Range: $49,600 USD - $82,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $59,000 USD - $98,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
