Machine Shop Assembly Inspector 3, Mechanical

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented and motivated individual for our assembly inspection team in Charlottesville, VA. This position will primarily support machine shop inspection.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Perform in-process, final and first article inspections on machined parts to include a review of manufacturing and process documentation
  • Confirm acceptable quality standards and workmanship practices in assigned work centers by learning/practicing process specifications and using workmanship standards during everyday job functions
  • Identify discrepant conditions and work with machine shop personnel to provide information for modification of procedures and processes to produce quality parts as well as generating nonconformance reports for discrepancies discovered during inspection process.
  • The use of common tooling such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures will be required for this position.
  • Proficiency in programming Coordinate Measurement Machines using PCDMIS is required
  • Must be available to work overtime as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical inspection, assembly, machining, or other equivalent experience: or and Associates degree in Mechanical engineering, Machining, Manufacturing with 2+ years of relevant experience or a related bachelor’s degree and 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. U.S. citizenship required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and good attitude – it should be evident from output of work that the best possible effort was given
  • Personal initiative to become engaged in assigned work area without needing to be coached or led to next assignment
  • Must be able to read engineering documentation and inspect to drawings and parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions
  • Previous experience working in ISO-certified company and using Process Specifications or Military Standards to perform inspection or work activities.
  • Ability to pay continuous attention to detailed operations.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results.
  • Ability to make decisions which have impact on the organization’s credibility, operations, and services.
  • Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate over ambient noise level.
  • Ability to work 1st and or 2nd shift

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AS/BS or higher
  • Fluent in use of Microsoft applications and ability to learn new computer programs/applications
  • Certifications in Nondestructive Testing: (1) Visual Weld Inspection and (2) Liquid Dye Penetrant Testing
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and their application
  • Experience with SAP/MES interfaces
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and 3D Modeling Software
  • Previous experience working in ISO-certified company and using Process Specifications or Military Standards to perform inspection or work activities

Salary Range: $44,800 USD - $74,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
