The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. The NG-MIP program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels.  SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as Active-duty service members.

Responsibilities for this internship position are:

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for Skillbridge. During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.

Goals – Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.

Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:

 - Has served at least 180 days on active duty
 - Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
 - Will receive an honorable discharge
 - Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
 - Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
 - Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship

Duties: Performs the following to include but not be limited to overall support for setting up and maintaining the physical network required for the Mission Training Complex (MTC) classrooms, VBS2 Enhanced Convoy Training System, and Battle Simulations Center (BSC). Must have knowledge of networks, communications and file transfer protocols, routers, switches and other network devices. Candidate must be able to develop network architectures for Battle Command Exercises and coordinate requirements with the units. Must be capable of creating and installing LAN cables and physical moving & arranging of equipment. Must be able to monitor simulation system performance to ensure maximum optimization, troubleshoot and identify system issues. Resolve interoperability problems to obtain operations across all Army Mission Command System (AMCS) platforms including email, file transfer, multimedia, and teleconferencing. Responsible for the configuration & maintenance of the Cisco Call Manager & Cisco IP Phone Network. Analyze voice, data, and multi-media communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media, and other devices. Perform network administration duties and provide technical support and troubleshooting to users. Coordinate requirements with the JLLTC ERF Federation users and senior system administrators. Administer network security and work with vendors to evaluate new products and resolve equipment design problems. Provide guidance and leadership to virtual warriors, unit staffs and MTC staff. Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies and participate in special projects. Secondary duties will include being familiar with Risk Management Framework policies and procedures. Provides and executes cross training with other technicians and perform other duties assigned by the section lead.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have experience in information technology with experience installing, operating, configuring different operating systems.
  • Capable of performing tasks at the system administrator level, with a working knowledge of Red Hat, Windows and Solaris operating systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience with army staffs from Company to Division levels
  • Must be a US citizen with a secret or higher security clearance or the ability to obtain one; applicant will be subject to a government security investigation.
  • Must be willing to travel outside Fort Carson 2-4 times/year for up to 3 week/trip.
  • Must be a disciplined worker capable of meeting short suspense’s without intense supervision.
  • Understanding of MCIS, simulation/stimulation concepts, gateways, interfaces, and architectures, and the Army Constructive Training Federation/Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability models.
  • Experience as a simulation analyst on military simulation projects.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with Army Mission Command Systems
  • Understanding of the Army command levels, command posts, and Mission Command War Fighting Function.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Army or equivalent command post/operations center
  • Meets DoD Skillbridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • CompTIA certification in A+, Security+ or Network+ as per DoD 8570 requirements.
  • Joint or Corps/theater staff experience a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT

Salary Range: $28 USD - $28 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
