Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to join its team located in Linthicum, MD.

Primary Function:

Perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks associated with the maintenance of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment.

1. Install, operate, maintain, diagnose malfunctions and repair mechanical equipment associated with the facility such as but not limited to pumps, motors, fans, hydraulic systems, compressors, hoists, power transmissions, engines, boilers, etc. Troubleshoot and isolate failures of mechanical components referring to service manuals and parts lists as necessary to obtain information such as part relationships, tolerances, fits and alignments, machine functions and operating limitations. Perform preventative maintenance functions as required. Determine lubrication requirements and follow through to optimize useful life of equipment.

2. Install, maintain, modify and repair steam, air, water lines, plumbing, gas lines, drains, sewer lines, hydraulic systems and the like. Plan and layout work, determine hardware and equipment required, make necessary calculations, cut, measure, thread, bend, band and cover piping. Make threaded, flanged, welded, glued, or leaded pipe joints as necessary. Diagnose system malfunctions and perform necessary repairs to transfer systems such as deionized, cooling and condenser water, hydraulic fluids and sanitary and storm drains. From general information, construct, modify, repair or install wooden, sheet metal, or synthetic objects and structures. Use appropriate tools to cut, measure, bend, fasten, finish, etc.

3. Prepare and finish surfaces such as wooden structures, walls, labs and office furniture, etc. Replace, install or repair locks in/on equipment, furnishings, and doors as necessary. Assist connections, machinery, transfer systems, etc. 4. Obtain, deliver and move material, tools and equipment from one location to another, utilizing appropriate material handling equipment such as company vehicles, fork trucks, hard carts, etc. as required. Perform a variety of routine maintenance functions such as cleaning equipment and facilities, painting, grounds work, lubricating, moving and relocating equipment and furnishings, changing/installing lamps and filters, receiving fuel oil deliveries, sampling outfalls, performing chemical treatment of water systems, visually inspecting equipment and facilities, working on ladders/scaffolding, rigging and the like. 5. Utilize computerized data management systems as necessary to maintain records on equipment preventative maintenance and repairs. Report any problems or unsafe conditions to supervision. Perform other miscellaneous duties which may fall within the scope of this position.

Position is intended for candidates seeking progression into a helium systems technician role within ATL’s Helium Liquefaction and Recovery plant.

This is a 1st Shift SEA Union Represented position.

Education Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Completion of an approved four (4) year mechanical maintenance apprenticeship program or four (4) years equivalent industrial maintenance experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties assigned under this position.

Experience Requirements:

Seeking candidates with the following preferred experience:

  • High, Medium, and low-pressure gas environments

  • Gas compressors and/or gas filtration systems

  • Cryogenics and/or gas liquefier equipment

  • Working in a production plant environment performing daily routine data collection and equipment monitoring



Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
