Northrop Grumman Defense Sector (NGDS) is seeking a Heavy Maintenance Manager for the US Army’s Transport Program to coordinate, schedule, and track all phases of depot maintenance. 

As the selected Transport Heavy Maintenance Manager, you will provide the subject matter expertise related to depot level maintenance for a fleet of more than 150 aircraft. You will coordinate schedules of aircraft that are due to enter, in process, and coming out of depot level repair maintenance.  You will coordinate with NGC, Gov’t and OEM engineering on repairs that exceed field level repair capability. You will help manage and verify depot level maintenance for multiple aircraft sites worldwide.  Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring NG delivers on our contractual commitments, advances our strategic objectives, and provides effective and engaged leadership to the program.

You are responsible for working with program leadership and our subcontractors to ensure appropriate resources, processes, tools, training, etc. are provided to support successful program execution as well as proactively providing program direction to best leverage NGDS capabilities. NGC Transport Program Management Office is headquartered in Huntsville Alabama.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on matters pertaining to aircraft structural maintenance and depot level maintenance.

  • Maintains close coordination with the Customer concerning all aspects of depot maintenance to include inspection, modification, integration, refurbishment, elective improvement and repair.

  • The Heavy Maintenance Manager will track and oversee schedules, costs, Over and Above’s, quality, and return to service activities to ensure an effective program. 

  • Lead various teams comprised of NGC personnel and Subcontractor personnel to ensure aircraft are returned to operational service on-time, and on-budget from depot level maintenance.

  • Manage the schedule and technical performance of Subcontractors performing depot level maintenance on our customer’s diverse fleet of aircraft from multiple worldwide sites.

  • Advance program and NG strategic objectives by building and maintaining trusted relationships with customers and subcontractors.

  • Maintains close coordination with the operations, logistics and program managers.

  • Ensure effective identification and resolution of aircraft structural repairs, risks, and opportunities. Drive issues and decisions to closure.

  • Liaison with aircraft engineering teams from NGC, Army Fixed Wing Program Office, and the OEM to determine best cost-efficient repairs.

  • Liaison with globally disbursed sites to coordinate structural repairs with local mechanics.

  • Write and deliver contractually directed periodic reports (daily, weekly, quarterly) to our customer and NGC Transport Program leadership.

  • Organize and lead reoccurring conference calls to maintain Customer awareness of schedules and costs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of experience managing aircraft repair teams in Contractor Support Logistics (CLS) activity or Senior NCO level experience leading aviation repair unit.

  • Minimum of 10 years of Depot/Heavy Maintenance structures experience.

  • Certified A&P Mechanic

  • Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.

  • A broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

  • Excellent verbal, and written communications skills. 

  • Collaborative management style, and an inherent drive to deliver on commitments.

  • Capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance.

  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FAA certified airframe or power plant maintenance instructor

  • Previous or current FAA inspector certification

  • Experience with one or more of the following aircraft: C-12, T-6, C-26, UC-35

  • 20 years military or contract maintenance experience on complex turbine aircraft.

  • The ability to manage communications with stakeholders through organized processes to ensure that program information is defined, collected, shared, understood, stored and retrieved in a manner that effectively meets program and stakeholder needs.


Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
