Northrop Grumman’s Armaments Systems Business Unit is looking for a Manager, Programs Level 3 to lead the PGK program area within the Precision Fires portfolio out of the Plymouth, MN facility.

This position will focus on leading the PGK program areas including production, development and international programs. This position will include both execution of a PGK program and program support to the other program managers on the team. The selected candidate will further support financial planning, program execution reporting, growth and retention of team members, capture of new business, and risk and opportunity management.

Program Managers are responsible for leading all phases of the program life cycle from inception (proposal development) through startup, execution, and completion (contract closeout). Primary responsibilities are the management of scope, cost, schedule, and technical performance of company programs or subsystems and include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for managing the daily execution of the PGK programs and the responsibilities of the Program Integrated Product Teams (IPT).

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the IPT (to include coaching team members, resolving conflict, and initiating corrective actions, if necessary)

  • Domestic travel to support customer reviews, supplier visits, and other meetings.

  • Establishing and clearly communicating program objectives and performance to the Precision Fires Portfolio Director, Combat Systems Operating Unit and Armament Systems Business Unit leadership

  • Responsible for program profit and loss reporting, cost control management and Orders, Sales, Profit and Cash decisions.

  • Maintains proper program budget and schedule by utilizing Earned Value principles and tools

  • Manages risks. Identifies potential issues and problems that could impact program performance and takes proactive action to resolve issues regarding cost and schedule. Establish and clearly communicate overall program objectives to IPTs

  • Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations to the program team as well as the management team

  • Develops relationships with vendors and suppliers, in coordination with subcontracts management and quality Functions, to meet program objectives

Basic Qualifications:

  • 14 years of experience required.  We will consider a Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years, or Master’s and 7 years experience supporting U.S. Government and/or commercial contracts and customers and/or project management in other industries

  • 5 years leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead, integrated program team lead, or cost account manager

  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams of individual contributors and managers, to include the performance of diverse personalities, manage conflict, and administer performance improvement plans as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage revenue, profit and cash performance of programs

  • Strong formal and informal communication skills with all levels of internal and external management

  • Defense Industry and DOD contract experience desired

  • Ability to manage risk to reduce likelihood and severity of program impacts

  • Ability to apply knowledge, insights and understanding of business and financial concepts, tools and processes to the benefit of program decisions, actions, and performance.

  • Ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment

  • Strategic thinker with excellent organizational skills

  • Able to travel both international and domestically - 10% of the time

  • Must be a US Citizen and able to acquire a US Govt. Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree or MBA

  • Experience in product development projects and sustainment of legacy programs for complex aerospace or defense systems.

  • Prior experience with PGK and artillery systems, or related systems


Salary Range: $168,000 USD - $252,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
