Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Operations Manager/Manager Project Manager 2. This position will be located in Promontory, UT and will support the Sentinel Program. Learn more about the Sentinel program here

The Operations Manager/Manager Project Manager 2 supports the manufacture, assembly and test of target launch vehicles for the U.S. Air Force Sentinel program. The Operations Manager (Promontory) will provide operational focus (cost, quality and schedule) for the Sentinel program operations team in Promontory, UT. The Operations Manager (Promontory) will be an Operations leader on the program with accountability to the Promontory Site Manager and Program Operations Manager.   The Operations Manager (Promontory) will have responsibility to ensure operational aspects of the program from material procurement to finished product delivery are properly planned and executed in accordance with the Program Execution Plan.  This includes establishing needs and driving delivery of Engineering products and support as required to meet program schedule. 

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Oversees day-to-day planning and operations for Sentinel Production and Mission activities  (Promontory, UT)

  • Leads effort to establish and maintain a Program Daily Activity Schedule (DAS) for manufacturing and I&T activities.

  • Coordinates with managers and leadership from a cross-functional team to ensure all required support is available to execute daily plan, including Technicians, Engineering, Quality, Material Operations and Logistics.

  • Control Account Manager (CAM) for Integrated Operations activities in Promontory.  Maintains and provides Earned Value status for the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) relative to Integration Facility Production operations, including cost variance analysis and corrective actions on cost accounts.

  • Develops program operations status and metrics on a regular basis and presents to management and the customer.

  • Develops, evaluates and proposes alternate paths to continue processing hardware and mitigate schedule challenges while maintaining strict quality control and adhering to tight deadlines.

  • Coordinates delivery of hardware kits and assemblies to various end user locations to ensure all deliveries are scheduled and arrive in timely manner to support Production and Mission operations.

  • Supports Program and Operations Management team in baselining contract awards in the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for all integration and test activities.

  • Coordinates with and informs government oversight representatives from the Defense Contractor Management Agency (DCMA) on daily activities and issues.

  • Acts as a change agent to improve material flow and empowerment within manufacturing and I&T utilizing lean practices and visual management.

  • Ensures standard processes, procedures and command media are followed, including 5S, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Control, Tool Control, among others

  • Develops, maintains and analyzes monthly metrics to promote sound operational decisions, improve efficiency and eliminate waste.

  • Supports and provides input to functional managers in regard to employee performance.

  • Champions ongoing Continuous Improvement initiatives

  • Provide an operations presence with program HW/SW change boards to ensure design changes to the vehicle or Ground Support Equipment (GSE) have been properly vetted with operations/manufacturing schedules, operational build/test impacts, and feasibility to execute the changes

  • Occasional business travel may be necessary (20% or less)

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 9 years directly related experience, or minimum 7 years’ experience with a Master degree.

  • Active Secret clearance is required. Can be validated through Defense Counter-Intelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) during the interview and application process.

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Energetic material safety knowledge and experience and understanding of Defense Contractors Safety Manual for Ammunition and Explosives (DoD 4145-26M)

  • Familiarity with Excel and Word software applications desired.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

  • Must be able to exercise influence and lead team to success

  • Ability to make independent decisions, be self-motivated, possess excellent communications skills, detail-oriented, and team player

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to effectively communicate to all levels of employees, management and customers

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing internal relationships, prioritization, and delegation.

  • Ability to be flexible, innovative, work with speed and agility to drive tasks to completion

  • Must be detail-oriented but able to grasp the big picture

  • Experience with Deltek/Costpoint and TipQA is a plus

Salary Range: $105,600 USD - $158,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
