Northrop Grumman Corporation – Propulsion Division is currently seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist (Principal/Sr. Principal Research Scientist) to join our Research and Development (R&D) team at our Promontory, Utah offices.

Role description & Responsibilities:

The Analytical Chemist has the responsibility to work as a member of the Analytical Testing Department performing analytical chemistry R&D and associated technical support of manufacturing operations. 

Experience Requirements: 

  • Candidate must have a PhD in Analytical Chemistry degree and a minimum of 3-5 years analytical chemistry working experience

  • Demonstrated experience in chemical analysis of small molecules, macromolecules, energetic materials and rubber products

  • Must have strong chromatographic spectroscopic working experience

  • Strong research and problem-solving capability in an R&D and/or production support organization

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in chromatography, LC/MS, and spectroscopy

  • Experience with investigation and troubleshooting of Aerospace materials and processing a plus

  • 10 plus years of experience preferred

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated independent work skills

  • Demonstrated innovation and/or problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture.

Education/Certifications

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with 0 years’ experience.

  • Position can be filled one level higher, Ph.D. and 4 years’ experience


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
