Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer Product Design Team Lead on the Command and Launch System Integration team.  This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force.  This position will be located on campus in Roy, UT and may require on-site support at product manufacturing and integration sites.

What You’ll Get To Do: 

The qualified candidate will work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages (PDP). PDPs consists of 2D drawings and 3D models (NX), various design analyses/assessments (structural/thermal), bill of materials and parts lists (ASME format), and requirements (DOORS).

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

• Serve as the main focal point to develop and baseline the developed PDPs
• Drive the development of the System Integration owned the PDPs by utilizing the PDP development engineering team
• Manage the tasking and workload for the PDP team ensuring work products are delivered on time and adequate support is provide to the various engineering teams for successful integration
• Develop collector, assembly, and installation PDPs owned by the System Integration team
• Implement program processes and engineering board approval processes for developed PDPs
• Deliver required PDPs on time to meet program objectives
• Integrate System Integration PDPs with the various element teams to proactively eliminate disconnects and design clashes
• Identify gaps and holes within the design and/or requirements and provide a path forward for resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others while filling the gap/hole
• Ensure the developed PDPs meet the design requirements from the various element/configured item specifications
• Determine technical solution in accordance with product specifications and recommend actions to representatives for coordinated product solution
• Support digital transformation initiatives relating to PDP development and release
• Provide oversight and reviews of System Integration PDPs to drive quality and compliance to both technical and formatting requirements
• Provide status and communicate blockers to IPT leadership

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Job Qualifications: 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 9 years’ experience; 7 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 4 years’ experience with a PhD 
• Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
• Ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance  
• Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
• 3 years+ of experience using systems engineering principles and processes
• Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• 2 years+ of experience with design and fabrication techniques for structural details, assemblies, and installations
• 2 years+ involved in the Build to Package development and release processes
• Experience with engineering drawing development and configuration management
• Experience and knowledge of specifications and processes as they relate to engineering model-based definition.
• 2 years+ involved in product development lifecycle

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

• Experience supporting Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) or other missile design and deployment programs or projects
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance
• ICBM Experience
• Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
• Proven knowledge of design tools including TeamCenter/NX
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
• Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations.
• Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
• Experience in leading/supporting a development engineering team
• Demonstrated experience working with customers to ensure project success
• Experience in performing in an Agile environment and knowledge/understanding of JIRA
• Experience in creating a PDP or PDP like product
• Experience in reading a civil engineering drawing and/or civil building code experience
• Familiarity with the ASME Y14.x suite of engineering drawing standards
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing as defined in ASME Y14.5-2009

Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
