SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 2/3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.
This position performs a variety of duties assisting thermal insulation products engineers in the design, fabrication, packaging, inventory and integration of Space Vehicle MLI. The preferred candidate will be a self-starter able to work independently or in small teams to fabricate MLI products from 2D design templates and install MLI products onto space flight hardware at the unit, subsystem, and system levels per installation drawings and procedures. Individual must be able to follow standard MLI processes and maintain necessary certifications. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks. Some travel may be required.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
- For Mechanical Technician level 2: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience
- For Mechanical Technician level 3: High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
- Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
- Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- US Citizenship required
- Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance or SCI, S, TS Access
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Thermal Insulation Product fabrication and integration methodologies
- Experience working on space flight hardware
- Experience working in a clean room facility
- Proficient in use of variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
- Comprehension with reading drawings, process specification and work order instructions
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Currently possess active DoD TS or SCI clearance
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
