Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSS) Sector designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. As a division of NGSS, our Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) designs, manufactures and operates small and medium-class spacecraft for communications , imaging, scientific, exploration and national security space applications. TSSD is a leading supplier of space hardware that powers and enables satellites of all classes, provides technical engineering services to government agencies and laboratories, and is developing exciting new satellite servicing and advanced space flight technologies.

Job Descriptions:

Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components. Drafts detailed drawings for fabrication. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedure to meet desired specifications.

The selected candidate will work as a Mechanical Technician on the integration of Northrop Grumman Spacecraft as assigned and must have or have the ability to obtain current Top Secret Clearance or SCI Clearance.

The candidate will acquire necessary skills on-the-job under the tutelage of senior level technicians and engineers. The candidate should be able to support mechanical leads and engineers with the installation of extremely fragile space flight hardware onto space vehicles and additionally have the ability to proactively identify issues, escalate to appropriate channels, and suggest solutions to engineering for review. The desired candidate should have leadership skills, organizational skills, personal skills, and a strong follow-through “can do” attitude. The selected candidate will be required to support spacecraft and spacecraft subsystem assembly and test. Manufacturing experience and certifications with flight wire harnessing, flight soldering, and epoxy bonding/application required. Experience with MLI – Thermal Blanket installation desired. In addition, the selected candidate must be flexible with work schedules, willing and able to work off shifts, weekends, overtime, and travel for launch campaigns. Occasional short term projects with travel may be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S Citizen and shall a minimum of a High School diploma or a minimum of 4 years of related experience as a Mechanical or Manufacturing technician or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Power point are required.
  • Understanding of Clean Room requirements, Hazardous Material Handling, Hazardous Operations protocols, and related operational protocols.
  • The ability to support and maintain work areas up to company ESD, FOD and 5S standards.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment with the ability to read, interpret, and execute work to mechanical assembly drawings, wire lists and BOM's. -
  • The ability to demonstrate technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to mechanical assembly, harnessing, and soldering with a high attention to detail.
  • Experience supporting team members with equipping them with the right tools, safety equipment, and gowning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solumina MES, TipQA, Windchill, CREOView, and Spacecraft processing knowledge preferred. Experience with critical/hazardous operations a plus.

Salary Range: $32 USD - $37 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
