SSSD has an opening for a Tool Cutter Grinder 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing various types of precision grinding responsibilities which may include but are not limited to the following:

Must be capable of manufacturing complex close tolerance and grinding material such as Tungsten, carbide, tool steel, etc. Must be able to grind with diamond, ceramic, and Silicon aluminum oxide grinding wheels and dress and operate both Cincinnati Tool grinder and Monoset Tool & cutter grinder.

Candidate must be able to setup grinding machines to grind and sharpen drills, milling cutters, reamers, broaches, tool bits, and punches. Must be able to modify tools involving special contours, compound angles, and radii to the required specifications.

The applicant should also be well versed in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance per ANSI 14.5M 1982/1994 specifications to interpret actual position and tolerance requirements. Also, to be able to work by written instructions and sketches.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • AA\AS Degree plus five years of experience as a tool cutter grinder or High School Diploma/GED and ten years of experience as a tool cutter grinder.
  • Experience in interpreting Cad drawings.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry as a grinder
  • Experience in setup and producing parts with minimum supervision
  • Experience in operating tool grinders and monoset grinders with needed attachments.
  • Experience in setup an Optical comparator and inspecting tools.
  • Experience in grinding to specific surface finish
  • Knowledge of measuring tools such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. 
  • A strong knowledge of ceramic, silicon aluminum oxide, and diamond grinding wheels 
  • Conventional machining background
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Cincinnati tool cutter grinders.
  • Experience with Vericut, NX, Catia5, and AutoCAD
  • Excellent communication skills.  
  • Able to grind tooling for needed projects.

Salary Range: $73,200 USD - $122,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
