Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Military Trainer or Principal Military Trainer - Joint National Training Capability (JNTC) Mitigation Analyst to join our growing team of diverse professionals in Suffolk, Virginia.  The selected candidate will coordinate the mitigation of accreditation and certification issues for selected Service Joint Training Division (SJTD) programs and training sites.  The JNTC Mitigation Analyst will analyze and draft complex reports, incorporating input from SJTD liaison officers positioned with each branch of Service and United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM).  The selected candidate will conduct analyses to determine mitigation actions that increase joint context at Service programs, and directly interact with active military officers (O-5 through O-7), government civilians (GS 13 through GS 15) and numerous stakeholders within the Joint Staff, J7.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend and analyze issues resulting from Accreditation and Certification visits for 37 service programs and 36 training sites

  • Enter program and site issues into Defense Intelligence Information Enterprise (DI2E), determine components required for specific queries, and produce detailed reports using Microsoft office tools

  • Support development of solutions, plan, schedule, and execute telephonic In Progress Reviews (IPRs) with service program leadership and SJTD Desk Officers

  • Develop a Mitigation Action Plan (MAP) consisting of objectives, key tasks, office of primary responsibility (OPR) and incorporates the MAP into a Program of Actions and Milestones (POAM)

  • Prepare materials, reports, and briefings for oversight bodies such as the JNTC Corporate Board, Executive Steering Committee, and Joint Integrated Process Team

  • Maintain mitigation related information in schedules, standard operating procedures, and other process documentation

  • Update Service Joint Training Division SharePoint portal sites

  • Enters program and site issues into JIRA determines components required for specific queries, and produces detailed reports using Microsoft office tools

  • Supports development of solutions, plans, schedules, and executes In Progress Reviews (IPRs) with service program leadership and SJTD Desk Officers

  • Prepares materials, reports, and briefings for oversight bodies such as the JNTC Service Board, Executive Steering Committee, and Joint Enablers Board

  • Provide expertise during JNTC ACM analysis and document analysis appropriate in the following areas:  Scenario Development, Interagency, Information Operations, Opposing Forces (OPFOR), Intelligence, Logistics, Observer/Trainer/Analysis, Joint Exercise Control Group (JECG), Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC), Joint Fires, Joint Doctrine and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTP), Cyber, Space Based Operations, Electronic Warfare, Command and Control, Feedback, Instrumentation 

This position may be filled as a Military Trainer or Principal Military Trainer per the following requirements:

Basic Qualifications for Military Trainer / Mitigation Analyst:

  • One of the following:

    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 7 years of professional and/or military leadership experience

    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of professional and/or military leadership experience

    • Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 year of professional and/or military leadership experience

  • Must be willing and able to travel within CONUS as needed (up to 25% of the time)

  • Must possess an active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport

  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia

  • Familiar with combatant command training

  • Current U.S. Passport or ability to obtain a Passport

Basic Qualifications for Principal Military Trainer / Mitigation Analyst:

  • One of the following:

    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of professional and/or military leadership experience

    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional and/or military leadership experience

    • Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional and/or military leadership experience

  • Must be willing and able to travel within CONUS as needed (up to 25% of the time)

  • Must possess an active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport

  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia

  • Familiar with combatant command training

  • Current U.S. Passport or ability to obtain a Passport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College or Service/agency equivalent

  • Operational level experience at a Special Operations Command Component, Joint Task Force or Combatant Command level staff

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a commissioned officer or non-commissioned officer (NCO)

  • Familiar with Joint Staff J7 training programs and workings

  • Experience with collecting data, analytical analysis and determining courses of action

  • Experience working with and around senior military and government personnel

  • Experience with operation of a military simulation model

  • Service or Combatant Command Headquarters or JS J7 Staff experience

  • Proficiency in MS Office Tools to include MS SharePoint and MS Teams

  • Knowledge working with relational database


Salary Range: $58,000 USD - $87,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $71,400 USD - $107,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
