Northrop Grumman offers two software suites: LSP and MAGIC. LSP is 3D electromagnetic PIC (particle-in-cell) code designed for large scale plasma simulations such as E-beam driven radiography, pulsed power accelerator design, heavy-ion fusion and petawatt laser-interaction. MAGIC is capable of designing and refining a wide range of electromagnetic devices.
The LSP Suite is a 3-D electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) code designed for large scale plasma simulations. The code calculates the interaction between charged particles (electrons and ions) and external and self-generated electric and magnetic fields. The code started with SBIR funding in 1995 and became commercialized in 2002. Some current applications are E-beam driven radiography, pulsed power accelerator design, heavy-ion fusion, KrF e-beam pumped laser, petawatt laser-plasma interaction, and plasma reactor.
MAGIC Tool Suite is an evolving set of tools using FDTD-PIC methods. Initially, the code provided guidance and intuitive insight for a variety of plasma physcis problems as it was designed to solve “textbook” physics and engineering problems. Since then its capabilities have matured (as have the computer resources) and the code has sufficient capability to be used in the design and refinement of a wide variety of electromagnetic devices. In addition, other applications have become accessible as the material and process models have been extended.
