More than any aircraft that has gone before, the game-changing F-35 Lightning II is designed to be a node in the combat environment. The halo of connectivity that it provides ensures its ISTAR collector, strike, and ground support capabilities are second to none. As a principal partner for the F-35 not only do we provide much of the aircraftâ€™s situational awareness, but also through our provision of the aircraftâ€™s communications and battlespace networks capability, no-one is better placed to integrate F-35 into the battlespace.
Unmanned capabilities have been transformational in the past ten years. For nations in a more contingent posture, it is going to be more critical than ever to be â€˜eyes-onâ€™ while maintaining the potential to be â€˜hands-onâ€™. Not only can Northrop Grumman offer the ultimate â€˜eyes-onâ€™ capability with the combat-proven Global Hawk high altitude long endurance unmanned surveillance platform, but we also provide medium altitude solutions such as the operationally deployed rotary wing Fire Scout system. Global Hawk has also been adapted to respond to the U.S. Navyâ€™s Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) requirement and Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Navy are well into the initial flight test programme for the Triton UAS. In addition to humanitarian assistance and supporting disaster relief efforts, Global Hawk has logged more than 100,000 flight hours, 75% of which have been on active deployment over battlefields in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. And beyond â€˜eyes-onâ€™, our ground breaking X-47B UCAV development project is regarded as leading the way in future â€˜hands-onâ€™ unmanned systems technology.
