Live, Virtual and Constructive

Northrop Grumman is a proven leader in Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training solutions.

While other companies claim LVC capability, Northrop Grumman is the only one with demonstrated successes in connecting the live environment to actual warfighter simulators operating at the highest security levels, including RED FLAG Alaska (2013-2018) and Northern Edge (2015 and 2017).

RED FLAG Alaska

RED FLAG Alaska is a series of Pacific Air Forces commander-directed field training exercises for U.S. forces, providing joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close air support and large force training in a simulated combat environment. During 2018, Northrop Grumman LVC experts provided training for five RED FLAG Alaska exercises.

Northern Edge

Northern Edge (NE) is a biennial, U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM)-sponsored air combat exercise in Alaska. At NE17, the exercise involved nearly 6,000 airmen, Marines, sailors and soldiers, more than 200 aircraft, and Navy and commercial vessels, and focused on tactical air superiority, strike and maritime scenarios. In the process, Northrop Grumman's LVC training solutions enhanced the realism through the use of remote bomber, command and control, and airlift simulators, as well as computer-generated friendly and adversary weapon systems. Northrop Grumman led LVC activities in 2015 and 2017 and has been asked by Alaska Command and PACOM to lead NE19 LVC activities.

Distributed Mission Operations Network (DMON)

Northrop Grumman, as the provider of DMON capabilities, delivers the virtual-constructive backbone for LVC leadership and is a core enabler for the USAF to achieve its LVC vision of worldwide training.

DMON allows different aircraft simulator platforms located across the globe to seamlessly interoperate and train together in a realistic virtual environment via a secure network. DMON provides on-demand, inter-team training for the Combat and Mobility Air Forces on a daily basis.

Northrop Grumman's DMON has been supporting training operations and integration since its launch in 1999. With 20 years of DMON experience and 300+ simulator integrations in 85 sites around the world, Northrop Grumman delivers a fully functioning, collective training solution that is scalable and cyber secure.

LVC Experimentation, Integration and Operations Suite (LEXIOS)

Northrop Grumman is able to provide the decisive advantage to LVC training by integrating the live environment with the synthetic (VC) via the LEXIOS system. A full-LVC spectrum suite of services, hardware and software that links live and virtual participants, LEXIOS enables robust real-world training in advanced training exercises. LEXIOS helped make NE17 the largest LVC air-to-air training event ever achieved and the first exercise to integrate all the various LVC elements for advanced LVC training.

A Global Solution for All Domains

Northrop Grumman provides training and readiness solutions for every domain: air, land, sea, space and cyberspace. Northrop Grumman's solution is global, and its on-demand LVC training framework has achieved numerous firsts during LVC training events — including the first integration of fifth-generation (F-35) and fourth-generation (F-16) fighter aircraft — demonstrating full-spectrum combat training that truly transforms the way pilots train to fight. As more and more countries add F-35s to their fleets, they will need the interoperable, on-demand, global LVC training solution offered by Northrop Grumman.
