Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Embedded & Real Time Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Software organization. This role is located in Melbourne, Florida.
In this role you will design, develop, integrate and test software for our end-user customers and businesses. Specifically, you will be responsible for the design, architecture, development, and administration of embedded and real time systems. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams, such as with Systems Engineering, Cloud & Application, Test Automation, DevSecOps and Systems Test, in an Agile software development environment. You will analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls.
Essential Functions:
• Work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels
• Participate in the full software development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our customers
• Operate in an embedded technology development environment working with real time operating systems for use in flight and mission critical systems
• Work in Agile Scrum teams to develop software products for multiple software baselines
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of experience
- Active DoD Secret level clearance OR Top Secret (in-scope), with the ability to obtain (and maintain) special program access (PAR).
- Ability to implement software in one or more programming languages: C, C++, C#, Java, and Python.
- Familiar with General Operating Systems Concepts used in Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) for Embedded Systems.
- Ability to integrate and debug software on target hardware including using IDEs such as VxWorks Workbench, Eclipse, Visual Studio, or GDB.
- Familiar with at least one or more Software Version Management, Change Control, Change Management, and CI/CD tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience Architecting, Designing, and Implementing Object Oriented Software in C++ for safety critical Embedded Systems AND/OR Application Systems tracing to user/system requirements.
- Experience with layered Event Driven (interrupt based), polling, and synchronous software architectures.
- Experience with White Box Unit Testing for safety critical real time Embedded Systems, and Application Systems.
- Experience with Software Requirement Specification Testing using automated scripting in Python or other scripting languages (MATLAB, JavaScript, Bash) to support White Box Unit / Black Box Hardware/Software Integration for test automation AND data collection.
- Excellent written, communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employee peers to management.
