Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radars

Radar Superiority Across All Domains

Radar Powerhouse: Generations of AESA Experience

As a pioneer in active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars, Northrop Grumman has been at the forefront of AESA innovations for more than 60 years. Our extensive design and manufacturing experience empowers armed forces worldwide, and provides unmatched air-to-air, air-to-ground, land, and sea superiority. Northrop Grumman’s commitment to innovation has led to significant improvements in our sensing capabilities. Spanning five radar generations, we’re continuously advancing designs while reducing costs and increasing mission capabilities.

Northrop Grumman delivers interoperable, adaptable radar solutions for a variety of platforms across all domains. Designed with security and scalability in mind, these solutions are built using open systems architectures, enabling rapid software updates to ensure warfighters maintain the upper hand. From low-SWaP designs fit for smaller aircraft and uncrewed platforms, to robust systems for larger platforms, our solutions retain critical functionality at every size, ensuring top performance for any mission.

AIR

Gaining the high ground starts in the air. Northrop Grumman’s airborne radars deliver strategic and tactical surveillance capabilities that operate effectively through all weather conditions in any domain.

As a world leader in airborne fire control radars, we are the sole AESA radar provider for both 5th generation fighter platforms: the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightning II.

LAND

To stay ahead of the enemy, the modern battlefield requires cutting-edge technologies that deliver industry-leading performance in clutter-rich, highly contested environments. Northrop Grumman’s ground radars provide a comprehensive operational picture, offering a 360-degree, long range, unambiguous view of the battlespace.

Our highly mobile solutions feature robust, field-proven electronic protection, enhancing survivability. Seamless networking and open architecture technology ensure that the information collected by our radars can be shared throughout the battlespace, providing allied forces the situational awareness needed to perform their mission and engage incoming threats. Simultaneous functionality and the ability to detect, track and target multiple objects at one time enables warfighters to make informed decisions at mission speed without losing sight of what is coming next.

As the adversaries threatening global security continue to evolve, Northrop Grumman’s sophisticated and versatile ground radar solutions stand ready to face whatever the future holds.

SEA

For a truly future-focused capability that can identify genuine maritime threats, radar technology must effectively see through the noise in increasingly complex electromagnetic environments. Northrop Grumman designed the AN/SPQ-9B to operate in these environments, and we are leveraging our cross-domain technological leadership in precision radars with our maritime X-band expertise to develop a next-generation X-band maritime radar that addresses increasingly sophisticated threats. Our enhanced signal processing techniques enable X-band radars to do what they do best: detect smaller, faster targets than ever before.

The surface fleet’s next-generation radar system is critical to layered self-defense for our sailors and ships. Built upon decades of proven experience delivering digital AESA radars in modular, open architectures, this game-changing X-band radar system significantly improves track quality and enables peak performance. Enhanced electronic protection techniques contribute to a system that is exceptionally survivable and responsive to the most challenging threats.

Innovation built on trust.

We've teamed up with the US Navy to develop a next-gen X-band radar to improve track quality and self-defense for surface fleets. Leveraging decades of AESA radar expertise and enhanced electronic protection, our solution delivers peak performance and survivability in challenging maritime settings.
