Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Structural Analysis Engineer (Weekend Days) to support our Aerospace Structures Business Unit (ASBU) team in Clearfield, Utah. Our group works to develop the latest composite structures for military/commercial aircraft and space launch structures and are leaders in next-generation structure development. We provide stress analysis to support new product designs and production of both metallic and composite aircraft structures. The projects within our scope offer opportunities for team leadership, project management, and diverse technical assignments.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Production Material Review Board (MRB) Analysis Support
- Composite Structural Analysis
- Fatigue/Durability & Damage Tolerance of Metals

This position will support the ‘C Shift’ which consists of 12-hour shifts, Friday through Sunday.
This position may be eligible for an additional shift differential.
Responsibilities:
- Develop solutions to structural analysis problems for aircraft platforms involving composite laminates, metallics, sandwich structure, and large bonded and bolted assemblies
- Support trade study designs, new project initiatives, airframe sizing, Independent Research & Development projects, and structural testing activities
- Support material review board (MRB) activity for non-conforming parts and provide structural recommendations to substantiate dispositions
- Perform structural analysis using classical methods, commercial tools, and in-house codes for multidisciplinary technical problems
- Understand the methods of analyzing composite structure and overall requirements for certification
- Build, analyze, and post-process Finite Element Models (FEMs) using Femap, Simcenter NX, and Nastran
- Document structural analysis methods, margins, and implementation in final reports and propose new methods depending on the needs of the project
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and 14 years of related, relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM field with 12 years of related, relevant experience; OR a PhD in a STEM field with 9 years of related, relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in one or more of the following core structural areas: Composite Analysis, Fatigue/Durability & Damage Tolerance of Metals, and/or Production Material Review Board (MRB) Analysis Support
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of engineers, leading a project, and/or mentoring junior engineers
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. This clearance must be obtained prior to start and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP). This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
- Active DOD Secret Security Clearance or equivalent
- Experience using Femap, NX Simcenter, and Nastran
- Experience supporting material review board (MRB) non-conformance dispositions
- Experience performing structural analysis for military aircraft applications
